What:

Magik Theatre unleashes its super changed summer camp schedule with a wide range of options for all ages. Campers will be the first to experience Magik’s newly renovated and cooler than ever theatre after its temporary closure for much needed updates. Back by popular demand, Summer Camps at Magik Theatre will reintroduce its programming for rising kindergarteners on up to 12th grade. With camp themes ranging from Bluey to Beetlejuice and Legos to K-Pop Demon Hunters there is truly something for everyone! And with one week, two week or Saturday series camps – families can find a format to accommodate even the busiest summer travel schedules.

The Magik Theatre, San Antonio’s premier theatre company for young audiences, is pleased to present a schedule of back-to-back blockbusters for its 2026 summer camp program. The ever-popular day camps are bringing back programming for rising kindergarteners, continuing Magik’s beloved musical and theatre tech intensives, and launching new ways to introduce young creatives to the performing arts. This year, the region’s hottest ticket in summer childcare comes with even more convenient schedules and the added comfort of a newly renovated building to boot!

When:

Every Kid Can Play a Part at Magik’s Summer Camps

At the heart of every Magik camp is the theatre’s core mission: ignite imagination, spark curiosity, inspire empathy and foster a lifelong love of learning. Each session weaves social-emotional learning into the fun, building confidence and creativity whether a camper is stepping onstage for the first time or the fiftieth. Magik’s teaching artists are the rare combination of working performers, skilled technicians and seasoned arts educators, backed by programs shaped through years of hands-on outreach in Texas schools. The result is a day camp that’s genuinely fun, deeply engaging and surprisingly educational.

Back by popular demand, Magik’s 2026 offerings include plenty of camps for kids as young as three, keeping in mind all campers must be fully potty trained to participate. Rising kindergarteners and first graders are welcome in Little Legends: Introduction to Creative Play half-day sessions. Choose from themes inspired by children’s faves like BlueyPaw Patrol and classic tales of pirates and fairies and more, or sign up for all four sessions to take care of summer plans from June 8 all the way through July, as each session lasts two weeks. For those who’d rather dip a toe into the Magik world before diving in, the weeklong Theatre Explorers Camp opens June 1 to introduce newbies K-8th grade to theatre basics through games, voice and dance exercises, and acting activities. Looking for a fun way to spend the dog days of August? Magik has that covered too, with a summer send-off August 3-7 that focuses on stagecraft, heavy on the ‘craft,’ including puppetry, costume design and more, again open to fresh preschool graduates all the way to rising eighth graders.

From Performance Pointers to Backstage Magik for Rising Stars

Elementary-age kiddos get their very own times to shine with Rising Stars-Mainstage Musical sessions created just for them. Whether they’re obsessed with WickedK-Pop Demon Hunters, Legos or Pokémon, they’ll find a supportive environment to express themselves and reveal their talents on Magik’s mainstage through eight themed options. Middle schoolers can avoid the, like, totally cringe act of acting with technically focused Drama Crew camps featuring music, puppetry, prop making, lighting and sound design. In the Intro to Musical Theatre sessions, teenagers entering ninth through twelfth grades have the opportunity to master the elements of modern musical classics like Beetlejuice and Mean Girls and celebrate their new skills with an end-of-session showcase. Center Stage Players is a special series of Saturday workshops for highschoolers hoping to hone their craft, diving deep into character work, script analysis and public speaking skills, without the burden of memorizing lines. The resulting evening performance on August 1 is not to be missed!

Like Little Legends, Mainstage Musical, Drama Crew and Intro to Musical Theatre sessions run for two weeks from June 8-July 31. Camps for rising second graders and above run from 9-4 pm, with optional extended care one hour before and after standard camp hours. Held at the same location with the same start times, parents of multiple theatre-loving kiddos don’t need to sweat convoluted camp commutes, and can score sibling and multi-session discounts.

Magik’s Summer Camps are Cooler Than Ever, Literally

This supercharged summer camp season is in part because Magik closed its theatre doors earlier in the year to undergo substantial renovations, giving staff extra bandwidth to revamp its camp programming as well. The result is a wider variety of day camps than in recent years, and an upgraded space featuring enhanced building accessibility and safety, softer theatre seats and, perhaps most importantly, brand-new HVAC to keep campers cool and comfortable throughout the San Antonio summer.
