Guadalupe Celebrates Dia De Los Muertos on Nov. 2 – La Vida de Los Muertos

 

 

The Guadalupe Celebrates Day of the Dead

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is celebrating Día de Los Muertos with a free dance production La Vida de los Muertos, on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. and a month-long live altar exhibition, beginning on Nov. 2, celebrating life and honoring the departed.

 

Guadalupe Celebrates

 

Its free dance production of La Vida de los Muertos – A Día de los Muertos Community Celebration will be held at Plaza Guadalupe, 1327 Guadalupe St. The public is encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy this outdoor, free performance.
The dance performance is free, funded by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture, Texas Commission on the Arts, H-E-B and AARP.

PUBLIC DISPLAY OF ALTARS ON DISPLAY AT GALERIA GUADALUPE THROUGH NOVEMBER 2023

 

In addition to the performance, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center will have an exhibit of altars, with a special opening on November 2 from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m., decorated with ofrendas, lined up with bright yellow marigold flowers and photos of the departed, created by San Antonio community members and area school students at the Galeria Guadalupe, 723 S. Brazos. Altars will be on display for public viewing through December 2, Tuesday-Saturday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

THE LATINO BOOKSTORE HOSTS NOVEMBER TEXAS AUTHOR SERIES ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 6 P.M.

 

Join us on Friday, November 10, 2023, 6 p.m., and meet with authors Dr. Jesus Jesse Esparza, Raza Schools: The Fight for Latino Educational Autonomy in a West Texas Borderlands Town, in conjunction with the Mexican American Civil Rights Institute (MACRI) and Alma Garcia, All That Rises: A Novel (Camino del Sol).

A book signing and reception will take place with books available for purchase. The evening is hosted by Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante, Literary Curator of the Latino Bookstore.

The event at the Latino Bookstore, located at 1300 Guadalupe Street, is free and open to the public.

42nd ANNUAL TEJANO CONJUNTO FESTIVAL EN SAN ANTONIO 

Launch of the 2024 Poster Contest Official Opening

 

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center is proud to announce the official opening of the 42nd Annual Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio 2024 Poster Contest. The popular poster contest returns with an award for the contest winner of $2,000, and is open to both professional designers and artists and students. The top prize winner’s poster will be used for all festival marketing materials for the Tejano Conjunto Festival en San Antonio, scheduled for May 15-19, 2024. There are no entry fees for the poster contest.
