About Jingu House

In 1916, Park Commissioner Ray Lambert looked out over the rocky pit left behind from what used to be a limestone quarry and cement factory and envisioned instead a tranquil Japanese garden with a waterfall and koi pond. Kimi Eizo Jingu was enlisted to oversee the tearoom and plantings in the garden, and a cozy stone house with a thatched-roof was built for his family. By 1926, the Jingus began serving green tea and chicken salad sandwiches to visitors. The Lawton Family of Restaurants took over operations of Jingu House in 2022, and we are honored to have a restaurant in this beautiful and historic setting. We’re pleased to now be open for lunch, brunch, dinners, and special events. A portion of our sales goes directly towards improving the Japanese Tea Garden. Thanks for joining us and for your support!

Japanese food, cocktails, and tea with a San Antonio Mexican twist. Jingu House is an intimate setting, and an empty table means a lot to us. We kindly request 24 hours notice for any cancellations. Thanks for understanding!
