First Annual Gumbo Cook-Off takes Place February 21st at Popular Southtown Eatery
The Good Kind, is hosting their first annual Gumbo Cook-Off. The restaurant is located at 1127 S. St. Mary’s St, San Antonio, TX 78210 and is featuring 18 local chefs, on February 21st from 6 pm – 9 pm in honor of Fat Tuesday.
Chefs from all over the Alamo City are throwing their hats in the ring to find out who has the best secret gumbo recipe. Participants for the event include local celebrity chefs, such as Chef Jason Dady of Tre Trattoria, Jardin, Two Bros. BBQ, & Range fame, Chef PJ Edwards from Meadow Neighborhood Eatery, Chef Kristina Zhao & Chef Jian Li of Dashi Sichuan Kitchen, & Botika’s Chef Geronimo Lopez, among others.
There will be 18 chefs in total competing for the top spot in three categories: Audience Favorite, Judge’s Pick & Chef’s Choice. Judges for the event will include KENS 5’s Roma Villavicencio, David Elder of Texas Eats, Jenny Browne, a Poet Laureate for San Antonio and Texas and self-proclaimed Gumbo lover, & Puro Pinche SA’s Stephanie Guerra, among others.
The event, held on the beautiful grounds of The Good Kind & Ivy Hall Events, will commence at 6 pm. Guests will be able to sample each chef’s creole creation, mingle with the participants, and cast their vote for Audience Favorite. A cash bar will be available for beer, wine, cocktails & non-alcoholic beverages & seating will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Free street parking is available.
Live music will be provided by local jazz band, Bexar Brass, for a little bit of that NOLA sound in San Antonio. Tickets for the Gumbo Cook-Off event on February 21st are $50 & include admission and 18 gumbo samples, as well as the ability to vote for your favorite dish.
