Enjoy the Best Seafood San Antonio has to Offer at Sea Island Shrimp House
Since 1965, Sea Island has been serving great seafood to San Antonio locals. Dan Anthony, his wife Chrissy, and Henry Reed opened the first Sea Island Shrimp House on Rector St. behind North Star Mall.
The restaurant soon became one of the most well-known seafood restaurants in San Antonio. When I moved to San Antonio in 1978, their seafood was the talk of the town, and frankly, the only place to get fresh seafood in this city. It was hard to believe that a city so close to the Gulf of Mexico only had one seafood restaurant. And obviously they are very good at what they do as they now have 6 locations in San Antonio and 1 in New Braunfels (next to Bucees).
Sea Island has been a family owned restaurant since its inception and is now run by their 2nd generation!
They have just introduced their new summer sensation, The Summer Shrimp Po Boys. They have their grilled shrimp and fried shrimp option- but they also have their signature Charbroiled Shrimp option (that no other seafood restaurant will have!) The Shrimp Po Boys will be available from now through August for just $10.99.
I have to say that they are all very good but I like the Charbroiled sandwich the best. Each mouthwatering Po Boy is served with ample slices of fresh tomatoes, shredded lettuce, dill pickle slices and a special sauce. They are served with a side of freshly fried potatoes and a couple of lemon wedges. The sandwiches are a good size to feed a hungry appetite. The Po Boys are made to order, so they are very fresh, not soggy.
Enjoy a Little Something Else
We did have appetizers (Diablo Cakes) and soup (Shrimp Gumbo, which was filled with shrimp) to start the meal. These two dishes were very filling and we could have skipped them when we saw the size of the sandwiches. Just saying!
And you can enjoy your meal with a margarita, beer, or wine at all of their locations at an amazing price point that EVERYONE will love!
