What is a Concha?
A concha is a type of Mexican pan dulce, or sweet bread, that is instantly recognizable thanks to its signature sugar topping, which resembles a seashell (hence the name “concha”). The bread itself is a lightly sweetened, enriched dough similar to brioche, while the topping provides a satisfying crunch and added flavor.
Unlike many bakeries that only offer standard vanilla and chocolate conchas, La Panadería continuously introduces unique, seasonal flavors and creative hybrids that make La Panadería a destination for concha lovers.
Seasonal & Limited-Edition Conchas at La Panadería
We love celebrating the seasons with special concha flavors! Be sure to visit La Panadería throughout the year to try these unique varieties:
Velvet Concha (Seasonal) – A rich red concha filled with chocolate ganache, available from Christmas through Valentine’s Day.
Green Concha – A festive green concha with pistachio ganache filling, available just in time for St. Patrick’s Day (March 3 – 17th).
Orange Concha – A bright concha with an orange-flavored sugar topping, available from March 19 – April 8.
Pumpkin Spice Concha – A fall favorite featuring a creamy pumpkin spice filling, available from Labor Day through the end of October.
How to Enjoy Conchas at La Panadería
If you want to experience a concha the right way, here are some perfect pairings to try on your next visit:
- For a traditional morning treat, enjoy a Vanilla or Chocolate Concha with Café de Olla, a spiced Mexican coffee brewed with cinnamon and piloncillo.
- For a rich, chocolatey indulgence, try a Velvet Concha with a Mexican Hot Chocolate, a creamy, spiced drink made with traditional Mexican chocolate.
If you love a warm, freshly baked concha, consider lightly toasting it and spreading a bit of butter on top for an extra comforting experience.
