Celebrate one of music history’s most foundational instruments, the Roland TR-808 Drum Machine, with San Antonio’s own Mike Dimes and special guest DJ Buck Rodgers on Thursday, August 8th!
Introduced in 1980, the Rhythm Composer transformed music production with its deep bass and unique snare sounds and is behind some of the industry’s most groundbreaking beats in various genres including hip-hop, R&B, dance, pop, and tracks by Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, Beastie Boys, New Order, and many more.
About Mike Dimes
At just 23-years-old, rapper/songwriter Mike Dimes represents the infectious energy of a generation that continuously refuses to be pigeonholed. With a standout sound that mirrors his Southern roots yet shows nuances from rap’s most eccentric stars like Joey Bada$$ and A$AP Rocky, Mike Dimes is a rising force on the underground scene quickly growing into a name you need to know.
In just under one year, the Texas based artist has attracted the likes of music enthusiasts everywhere, with outlets like KAZI, VIPER Mag and Early Rising highlighting his raw talent and steadily-climbing fanbase. Born to a military family, Mike’s early influences reflect all the places he’s called home throughout the years, spanning from the deep south to the midwest.
His introduction to music began through embracing his artist gifts and poetry at a young age, with his pen-game later transitioning into raps after listening to legends like Tupac Shakur, Lauryn Hill and Andre 3000. His debut single, “My Story,” released in 2021 accumulated over 2.5 million streams in under 2 weeks upon its release.
Dimes has drawn praise for his confident flow and ability to create compelling narratives. He glides over beats the way an oil slick does over the surface of water. His best creations “revolve around menacing, three-dimensional beats,” Pitchfork wrote in a glowing 2022 review of In Dimes We Trust.
About Buck Rodgers
From the Midwest to the Lone Star State, performing artist Jordan “Buck” Rodgers continues to make a name for himself wherever he goes. His live sets transcend the categories of “DJ” and “Producer” to create a whole new breed of stage show that few can rival.
As both a finger-drumming and turntablism aficionado, he runs the gamut of master manipulator of the MIDI controller and vicious surgeon on the turntables as he creates remixes live. Having played drums at 3 years old and DJing since he was 12, Buck Rodgers has since played with some of the industry’s biggest names, stood behind the decks on some of the biggest stages, and made his mark on the competitive DJ world. Buck shows no signs of slowing down, either. He is constantly redefining his style and practicing his technique in order to make sure he stays on top of his game.
