The Briscoe

The Briscoe Wants You to Saddle Up, Round Up and Wrangle Some Western Fun this Spring Break

The Briscoe has Rounded Up Some Special Programming to Take You West March 17-19.

The Briscoe

Hit the trail and head West without ever leaving the River Walk during Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Spring Break Roundup. With arts and crafts, scavenger hunts and earthquakes, capture the excitement and adventure of the West for your spring break, learning about Western lifestyle and seeing the stories shared through Western art brought to life.

Briscoe’s Spring Break Roundup offers children and caregivers different activities to enjoy together Thursday, Friday and Saturday of spring break. The come and go program includes activities that celebrate the heritage and culture of the American west. Different activities will be available each day, giving everyone the opportunity to explore the West in a variety of ways.

Spring Break Roundup is included in museum admission, with no charge for craft supplies and no reservations required. However, caregivers must accompany participating children for each activity.

Spring Break Roundup

Mar. 17 – 19

Scheduled programming includes:

  • Thursday:  Native American Heritage Celebration, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Celebrate Native American heritage and learn more about Native Americans in the West through activities that include weaving, activities that teach about bison and crafting a pinch pot from clay. The first 30 families that visit the museum will receive an award-winning children’s book about Native America history in the West to add to their home libraries.

  • Friday:  Wild West, Wildlife!, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Get wild with crafts and fun focusing on the animals and landscapes of the West. From painting bluebonnets to learning about animal tracks, and a scavenger hunt that will lead families throughout the museum to claim a prize, everyone will enjoy the wild side of the wild West!

  • Saturday:  Full STEAM Ahead “Earth shake? Earthquake!” 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Part of the Briscoe’s new education series, “Full STEAM Ahead”, “Earth shake? Earthquake!” lets everyone imagine what earthquakes were like in the Old West. California and the West Coast are known for their earthquakes. How do you think Western settlers reacted and prepared for earthquakes? Families will create their own home and test it to see if it can survive an earthquake!

“Full STEAM Ahead” allows learners of all ages to work together and learn about the American West by engaging in hands-on STEAM learning experiences. Sharing the American West through STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics – each activity ties back to the Briscoe’s art and artifacts, bringing the West to life in a new way. Enjoy Full STEAM Ahead at the Briscoe on the third Saturday of each month.
