Russo’s New York Pizzeria Brings True New York-Style Pizza to the Alamo City at The Rim
Enter Russo’s and you will experience the best New York Style pizza around. I know I did! And it is not just the pizza that stands out here. It is the homemade soups, the pasta made from Chef Anthony Russo’s own family recipes, the specialty dishes crafted by Chef Russo himself and the authentic Italian desserts. In fact, the Russo family has a saying, “If it isn’t fresh, don’t serve it.” And this saying is also their family promise.
They make their own pizza dough, marinara sauce and fresh burrata in-house as well as sourcing ingredients that are minimally processed, antibiotic free, have no artificial ingredients and are nitrite free. Oh, and I need to mention they offer gluten-friendly pizza crusts & pasta and a vegan pasta for those specialty diets.

This quaint little Italian kitchen is located just off IH-10 in The Rim, one of the hottest new areas of town. It is within walking distance of the Santikos Entertainment Palladium where you can catch a movie or go bowling before or after dinner. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor dining, a wine bar with top wines hand selected by Chef Russo to pair with any item on the menu, Italian Sangrias, and beer. They do $5 Sangrias and $2 beer during happy hour, MON – FRI: 3PM – 7PM (dine-in only).

This casual eatery has an old-world charm and with the delicious aromas coming off the open kitchen and the wood-fired pizza oven, I was drawn in immediately.
Take a deep breath, relax, and then order a Sangria, glass of wine or Prosecco. I suggest you also order the Prosciutto & Burrata for the table. The Prosciutto di Parma topped with fresh arugula alongside handmade fresh burrata is drizzled with Sicilian extra -virgin olive oil, served with a side of balsamic sauce. Mmmm, mmm…

Or if you prefer, go for an appetizer like the East Coast Calamari (enough for two). This tender calamari is minimally dusted with a mixture of flour, salt and pepper and then lightly fried and served with the homemade marinara sauce. The best Calamari I have had to date!

To celebrate National Pizza Month this October, Chef Russo developed a unique offer. He is giving away FREE medium cheese pizzas with ANY premium pizza purchase from nypizzeria.com. Just use promo code: FREECHZ. This is a limited time offer. While dining at the restaurant I tried two different pizzas:
The Doppio Pepperoni which had tri-colored jalapeno peppers, double pepperoni slices, ricotta cheese, Russo’s pizza sauce and Wisconsin mozzarella. This was a spicy number with loads of flavor. I could literally smell the peppers as they brought it to the table.

The Chicken Rustica was topped with grilled chicken, fresh spinach, basil, feta cheese, Roma tomatoes, very thinly sliced, Wisconsin mozzarella, Sicilian extra-Virgin olive oil and fresh garlic. The wonderful blend of flavors literally danced on this pizza.

In addition to October being National Pizza month, it is also National Pasta Month. To celebrate their legendary pasta, Chef announced his, “Taste of Italy” special. This is a premium spaghetti and meatball dinner for two paired with salad and garlic bread for only $19.95. What a great deal! This is a limited time offer.
It was recommended I try the Pappardelle Carbonara pasta dish as it is a favorite among customers. The thinly sliced prosciutto di Parma, garlic and red onions mixed in a Pecorino Romano cream sauce is a wonderful combination. This sauce was then mixed with the homemade pappardelle pasta to create a magical dish. I loved it! The flavors of the sauce blended together and coated the noodles, for the perfect pasta dish. I can see why customers love this one.

Baked Ziti is a favorite pasta dish of mine, so I had to try Russo’s version. I certainly wasn’t disappointed with the al dente penne pasta mixed with ricotta cheese, Wisconsin mozzarella, and Pecorino Romano cheese making it the cheesiest dish ever. Add to that the homemade marinara sauce and you can’t go wrong. I love the presentation of the dish too, as it was served with a large basil leaf on top for color.

And then there was dessert!
The Truffle Chocolate Cake is a colossal 6-layer wonder. Each layer is a moist, rich chocolate cake topped with dark truffle chocolate filling. This is a chocolate lover must have!

The Red Velvet Cake is 4 layers of chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and frosted with a tangy cream cheese icing. Then the cake is topped with a chocolate glaze and chocolate chips.

Russo’s is a must destination for coffee and dessert after a movie!
More to the menu….
You will also find soup, salad, crostini and calzones at this delightful eatery. They have a menu that will appeal to anyone looking for fine Italian cuisine.
