KUMO, CONTEMPORARY MEXICAN OMAKASE, TO OPEN NOVEMBER 4 – From Chefs Rico Torres and Diego Galicia, Kumo to Take Over Mixtli Location

Diego Galicia and Rico Torres, the chefs behind the award-winning San Antonio restaurant Mixtli, are excited to announce their new concept, Kumo, a contemporary Mexican Omakase. Kumo, meaning cloud in Japanese, will focus on tacos and handheld dishes. Kumo will take over the old Mixtli space at 5251 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, as Mixtli is moving to Southtown in early 2021. Reservations for Kumo are now available at restaurantmixtli.com/kumo and the restaurant is slated to open Wednesday, November 4th.  

“Kumo is a concept inspired by the Omakase style of service,” said Chef Galicia. “We are looking forward to serving our guests in a really fun and unique way. San Antonio has such a diverse community, and we know our guests will embrace the experience.”

Chef Torres adds, “Kumo is a unique departure from traditional dine-in ordering. Menus will change frequently to reflect the chef-selected seasonal ingredients and create distinct experiences for guests.”

KUMO

Omakase means “I leave it up to you” in Japanese, where the customer leaves it up to the chef to select and serve seasonal specialties. The menu, which includes 8 – 10 courses, will be curated by Chefs Rico Torres and Diego Galicia and will feature tacos, tostadas, and small bites with Japanese influences including ceviches, tostadas, and tacos.

Each ticket can be pre-purchased for $85 and will be BYOB with pairing suggestions available on the website prior to your dining experience. At the restaurant, daily agua fresca, which will change with the menu, will be available for purchase. 

KUMO

The team behind Kumo has led Mixtli to be one of the most prominent restaurants in San Antonio. Galicia and Torres have been named Food & Wine Magazine’s “Best New Chefs” in 2017 and James Beard semifinalists for “Best Chef Southwest” in 2018 and was named the 2018 and 2019 #1 Best Restaurant by the San Antonio Express-News. The pair has also been featured in Texas Monthly, USA Today, on Travel Channel, Hulu, and more. Mixtli, which is relocating to a larger space in San Antonio, will be open early next year.

KUMO

Kumo will be located at 5251 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, and open Tuesday – Saturday with seatings beginning at 5pm. Kumo will feature six tables for two guests each only.
