NEW CRAFT COCKTAIL BAR ‘AMOR ETERNO’ TO OPEN IN SOUTHTOWN FALL 2020
Menu offerings to include chef-inspired “Tejano street fare” cuisine by ¡Bucho! – Cocktail program to include local flavors developed by co-owner and bar veteran Aaron Peña
Amor Eterno, a new craft cocktail bar concept, is excited to announce its launch in Southtown in downtown San Antonio, coming this Fall 2020. Amor Eterno will offer an elevated experience of craft cocktails and food in an intimate setting and atmosphere, paying homage to family history and the city’s culture. The entire food menu is being developed in partnership with ¡Bucho!, a popular pop-up concept that focuses on chef-inspired “Tejano street fare.”
Developed by local bar owners Aaron Peña and Brian Correa, Amor Eterno is located in the space formerly occupied by Don Martin’s Coffee Co. Prior to being a coffee shop, the building belonged to Brian Correa’s grandfather, who ran the historic Bar America before Correa took over. Established in 1942 as Café America in a different location, the one-time cash-and beer-only Bar America now boasts a liquor license, full service kitchen, and has been fully renovated under Correa. Amor Eterno is located directly behind Bar America.
“I wanted to bring something to Southtown that complemented the already many great places to grab something to eat or drink in our neighborhood. At the same time I also wanted to incorporate our culture and pay homage to my family who has been in that neighborhood for close to 40 years,” said Correa. “I’m grateful that I was able to partner up with someone like Peña that not only shared my vision but also played a huge role in bringing it to life.”
Aaron Peña is a local entrepreneur and owner of the popular San Antonio bar The Squeezebox in the St. Mary’s Strip area. The Squeezebox is a bar and music venue focused on showcasing the nostalgic sounds of local legends as well as featuring some of the city’s top DJs. For Amor Eterno, Peña wanted to curate a more intimate concept and bring a craft cocktail bar experience to Southtown.
“Squeezebox was my first bar and I love what we created there,” said Peña. “But with Amor Eterno I felt it was time for a concept that showcased a proper representation of our culture in a rapidly changing city. I believe that representation matters, and it is very important to us to create a space in this historic building to preserve a family legacy, to be visible and represented, and to continually grow with our city.”
Amor Eterno’s menu will feature a selection of curated food items by the team at ¡Bucho!, with an affordable price range of $5 to $10 for items. The menu includes mini tacos of carnitas, pescado, ceviche, and mojo verde; chipotle agave wings; Tejano Cubano sliders; a Puro San Anto grilled cheese sandwich; elote tater tots, and more. The bar program, overseen by Peña, will offer handcrafted cocktails and a curated selection of wine and beer.
Amor Eterno will open Fall 2020, and be located at 540 S. Presa Street. During the era of COVID-19, Amor Eterno will be taking all the necessary precautions to make sure the experience is safe for both staff and guests—including additional sanitizing, frequent hand washing, mandatory masks for guests, associates, and operators, socially-distant tables, and offering hand sanitizer stations.
An official opening date will be announced soon. For more information and updates, follow Amor Eterno on Instagram at @amoreterno_sa.
