Let’s Celebrate September Events with These Six Spirited Cocktails
September brings the start of fall and although it might look a little different this year, the celebrations stay the same. William Grant & Sons, a family-owned distillery with a vast portfolio of award-winning spirits, has the perfect cocktail to pair with each occasion from Labor Day to Halloween. National Bourbon Month – September
Cheers to the sweet elixir, Bourbon, all month long with this classic cocktail featuring Hudson Baby Bourbon, the first-ever New York State-produced bourbon.
Pioneer Old Fashioned – Created by Hudson Whiskey Ambassador David Powell
2 parts Hudson Baby Bourbon
1 tsp Demerara simple syrup
3-4 dashes aromatic bitters
Add to a mixing glass: simple syrup, bitters, then Baby Bourbon. Stir well to combine and chill. Strain into Double Old Fashioned glass over one large rock (or fill the glass with smaller cubes). Using Y-peeler or paring knife, cut large, wide twist of orange peel. Rind side out, snap twist to express orange oils over drink, then garnish with the twist.
Labor Day – September 7
Enjoy a well-deserved load off with a refreshing “labor-less” cocktail! Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky, is one of just three ingredients in this super simple sip.

2 parts Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Bourbon Barrel Reserve
Bruised Mint Leaves
Build with crushed ice and garnish with mint sprigs in a traditional Julep cup.
First Day of Fall – September 22
Autumn awaits! Celebrate the changing of seasons with the perfect transitional cocktail made withMonkey Shoulder, a cheeky blend of 100% malt Scotch whisky.
Niced TEAzy – Courtesy of Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
1 ½ parts Monkey Shoulder
½ part Drambuie
2 parts Chamomile Tea
¼ part Vanilla Syrup
1 dash of Orange Blossom Water
Garnish with a Lemon Wedge & Mint Sprig
Build in highball glass over ice, lightly stir and garnish with a lemon wedge and Mint Sprig.
International Coffee Day – September 29
Enjoy International Coffee Day with a Scottish Coffee. This coffee cocktail will put a twist on your regular cup of Joe, featuring The Balvenie, the most handcrafted Scotch whisky.
Scottish Coffee – Created by The Balvenie East Coast Brand Ambassador Naomi Leslie
1 ½ part The Balvenie 12 YO Sweet Toast of American Oak
1 part Heavy Cream
2 tsp Cocoa mix
Hint of Vanilla Extra
Chili powder (or nutmeg)
Add vanilla extra, cocoa mix and whisky in a glass. Top with coffee and stir with a bar spoon. In a cocktail shaker, pour the heavy cream and shake. Top the cocktail with the heavy cream and a few dashes of chili powder.
National Vodka Day – October 4
Toast to the versatile spirit with this flavorful and simple cocktail featuring Reyka Vodka, which hails from Iceland and even uses lava rocks as a natural filtration system to create a silky smooth finish.
Guilty by Association – Created by Reyka Vodka National Ambassador Trevor Schneider
1 ½ parts Reyka Vodka
¾ part Aperol
¾ part Lime
¼ part Turbinado Simple
Combine all ingredients. Possible muddle limes. Serve over crushed ice and garnish with lime slice.
Halloween – October 31
Did you know Halloween is an Irish Holiday?! Keep the tradition alive with this spooky cocktail made with the world’s second largest Irish whiskey brand, Tullamore D.E.W Irish Whiskey.
Vampire’s Weakness (a Boulevardier)
1 ¼ part Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey
1 part Campari
1 part Sweet vermouth
Garnish: 1 Bloodied Eyeball – Made using a Lychee, a blueberry and fruit preserves which create the veins.
Pour liquid ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir until chilled. Strain into glass. Garnish.
