What Better Way to Celebrate National Cheeseburger Day Than with a Burger Topped with Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese
This September 18th, celebrate National Cheeseburger Day by putting a new, Italian twist on an old favorite!
The Consortium of Parmigiano Reggiano has updated the classic burger to incorporate grilled 24-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano, aka the “King of Cheese,” providing a nutty, smoky component that makes the quintessential grill-out dish, dare I say…tony.
Grilled Parmigiano Reggiano Burgers

Ingredients:
4 burger buns
4 ground beef patties (⅓ pound each), well seasoned
1- ⅔ cups Parmigiano Reggiano
1 tomato
1 red onion
4 lettuce leaves
Mustard to taste
Instructions:
Bring the beef patties to room temperature and then place the burgers on a hot grill. Cut Parmigiano Reggiano into slices of about 2 inch thickness, place them on a hot griddle and cook until the cheese starts melting. Slice onion and tomato. Cut the bun in half and spread each piece with mustard, then form the layers with lettuce, beef burger, grilled Parmigiano Reggiano, onion, and sliced tomato.

Tip: Remove the rind from the cheese, but don’t throw it out. It is a great way to add flavor to soup and sauces by adding some small slices of the rind during the cooking process. Don’t use too much as it also adds salt to the recipe. A little goes a long way!
