Guadalupe Academy Begins to Offer Dance and Music Classes Online
Plus All New Classes, No Experience Needed

The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center has provided traditional Mariachi and Conjunto music and Mexican and Flamenco dance classes for over twenty-eight years for students of all ages and levels.  Before the covid-19 outbreak forced the Guadalupe to cancel classes and close its doors at the Galería Guadalupe, the Academy was offering ten dance classes and eleven music classes to 140 students ranging in age from 4 years to 65+.

Now, you can learn folklorico, flamenco, violin, guitar, trumpet, voice, accordion, piano, guitarron, vihuela plus all-new classes like Get Up and Dance!, Ballet Technique & Lyrical Jazz, Baby & Me, Intro to Folklorico, Intro to Flamenco, Salsa for Seniors, and Mommy/Daddy & Me Folklorico.

It’s all done in the comfort of your own home, so instead of meeting in our Guadalupe Galería building, we’re teaching in virtual classrooms online.  All you need to do is go to the GCAC website at www.guadalupeculturalarts.org, and once you’ve chosen your class from the list, scroll down to the bottom of the page to pay your monthly tuition.  Students will need a computer or similar device connected to the internet in order to download and join the online class.  Once you’re enrolled, you don’t have to worry about showing up to class on a specific day or time.  All classes are pre-recorded, and students will have access to new videos each week.  Registered students will receive a code giving them access to instructional videos that they can watch at their own pace at any time.

“While the stay-at-home restrictions have forced us to cancel our in-studio classes, this unusual situation has given us the opportunity to create online classes that will appeal to a much wider audience beyond the San Antonio community allowing us to engage new students in our program,” said Belinda Menchaca, Education Director at the Guadalupe.

New online classes began May 4, 2020, and will be available on ClassDojo, an online application. Tuition is $25 a month & for a limited time the registration fee is waived. These classes are brand new content specifically created for the online, distant learner. Most of these classes are geared to beginning dancers, therefore prior experience is not required.
