Salvador DOBBS is a Friendly Spot that Offers Patrons Many Ways to Capture the Boerne Night Life
Since opening in January 2018, Salvador DOBBS is the place where Boerne locals come to party. Whether you are joining friends after work for longnecks, pool and shuffleboard, kicking back with some craft cocktails and live music, or planning a private gals night out in the champagne party room, this is your spot.
After receiving her B. A. in Public Relations & Marketing from UTSA, Veronica Mazal Brown, along with her Mother, Executive Chef Denise Mazal, opened Little Gretel, a popular Czech restaurant in 2009. It was there Brown learned many hands on skills of owning and operating a business. “But”, Veronica stated, “I have always wanted to own a bar!” So in 2018 that dream finally came true when the Ewe & Eye, a Toyshoppe & Knitting store next door to Little Gretel and also owned by Denise, was remodeled.
Salvador DOBBS is situated along the quietly flowing Cibolo Creek at 512 River Road in Boerne, TX. But don’t let the tranquil location fool you! This bar is a hot riverbed of lively music, games, Karaoke and friendly conversation. It has taken on a life of its own completely different from its former tenant.
In fact, you’ll find this place interestingly intriguing as soon as you walk up to the vault like door with a speakeasy window. Upon entering, you find an eclectic, speakeasy bar filled with memorabilia from Brown’s family history. Be sure to check out the vintage hat boxes from Dobbs Hats Fifth Avenue in New York where one of Veronica’s great uncles worked in the 1920’s. (The name Salvador DOBBS actually came from her great uncle’s name, Salvador, and the hat company.) Other memorabilia can be found in the lit display on the floor on the way to the restrooms. One item there is her mother’s red hat which she wore when she came to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia.
The speakeasy theme is carried out by the library wall which opens to a “hidden” private champagne room which can be reserved for private parties. It’s also apparent in the bar’s signature cocktail menu with names like Sidecar, Tommy Gun Manhattan & Fitzgerald to name a few.
I tried the Blue Peacock a mixture of refreshing blueberry puree with vodka which is named after the peacock stain-glass feature which used to hang in Brown’s father’s bar in Boulder, Colorado! This is a good cocktail for anyone who likes a sweet drink.
The Cucumber Martini is a refreshing drink made with cucumber vodka, lemon and simple syrup served in a Martini glass rimmed with tajin chili. You’ll find yourself having seconds of this one.
Sit back and listen to live music rock the house with local musicians on Friday & Saturdays. Or if you get restless, they have numerous games to keep you amused like; shuffleboard, pool, darts or Corn Hole. Or just sit outside on the comfy seating or swings on the patio facing the river.
Special note: Salvador DOBBS is dog friendly both inside and on the patio! So bring your pooch to enjoy a night of music and a bowl of water!!
Menu includes Classic and Craft cocktails, local Draft and Bottle Beer, wine and champagne.
Salvador DOBBS can accommodate large groups both indoors and on the patio!
I suggest stopping into Little Gretel for lunch or dinner (check hours) before going next door to spend the evening at DOBBS for some live music, or just sitting on that patio with wine or beer in hand.
