County Line IH-10 is Combining a Vietnamese Favorite and Delicious BBQ in a New Menu Item

Americans eat more than 300 million sandwiches* every day (who knew?) County Line BBQ on IH-10 is doing its part to make sandwich lovers happy and is now serving a BBQ Banh Mi sandwich at lunch from 11-3 p.m. If you are one of those that love sandwiches, come by County Line and experience this for yourself.

As far as I can tell, County Line is one of the few BBQ places in San Antonio serving this fairly new sandwich infatuation. Its “BBQ Banh Mi” is made of a fresh-baked baguette topped with County Line’s famous peppered turkey breast, shredded carrots, fresh cucumber and it house-made Sriracha mayo, with a side of cilantro and fresh sliced jalapenos for $9.99.  Brisket can be substituted for $1. All this just in time for National Sandwich Day Nov 3rd.

If you aren’t familiar with the Vietnamese favorite: Bánh mì or banh mi is the Vietnamese word for bread and also refers to a baguette which is split lengthwise and filled with various savory ingredients and served as a meal.

How did the Vietnamese create a sandwich on a French staple such as the baguette, you ask? According to Wikipedia:  “The baguette was introduced to Vietnam in the mid–19th century, when Vietnam was part of French Indochina, and became a staple food by the early 20th century. During the 1950s, a distinctly Vietnamese style of sandwich developed in Saigon, becoming a popular street food. Following the Vietnam War, overseas Vietnamese popularized the bánh mì sandwich in countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States.”

For your information, the BBQ Banh Mi is just one sandwich served at County Line for the sandwich lovers of San Antonio. It also serves Sausage, Smoked Peppered Turkey Breast, Shredded Beef, Pulled Pork, Original Lean Beef Brisket, 2nd Cut Beef Brisket, Bar-B-Q Club, and Grilled Chicken Breast sandwiches, all of which are served on a fresh homemade bun with green leaf lettuce, onion, dill pickle, and a heap of fries.

Recipe for the house-made Sriracha Mayonnaise:

Kraft Extra Heavy Mayo – 1 QT

Siracha  – 1 & 1/3 Cups

Pure Honey – 1/3 Cup

Mix all ingredients together well and refrigerate
