Launching on Sundays at the Pearl Farmers Market is the Cooking Demo Booth with Chef Cooperatives’ Chefs
WHO: San Antonio’s Chef Cooperatives, a nonprofit comprised of well-known San Antonio chefs, has been instrumental in raising funds through their pop-up events to actively support the health and prosperity of South Central Texas farmers, ranchers and vintners, as well as the local communities. The Chefs have also been first responders, feeding these same communities during times of disaster.
Pearl Farmers Market is a true representation of our South Texas growing, ranching and artisanal food community and features a producer-only Farmers Market on Saturday, followed by a Sunday market with a bigger emphasis on artisanal and prepared foods. All 45+ vendors are located within a 150-mile-radius, selling produce, meat, eggs, baked goods, locally-produced cheeses, olive oils and a diverse selection of prepared foods and treats.
WHAT: Starting on Sunday, September 15, the Chef Cooperatives will officially launch their cooking demo booth at the Pearl Farmers Market. Chef Cooperatives’ chefs, as well as other community chefs (one per Sunday), will be be creating dishes using only farmers market produce and products, graciously provided by the Pearl Farmers Market. Every vendor’s products at the market will be used on a rotation schedule.
Chef John O’Larnic will be the host of this new endeavor. Demos will run at the top of each hour from 10 am to 1 pm, and will be recorded live to be viewed on the Chef Cooperatives’ and Pearl Farmers Market’s Facebook Pages. Afterwards, the videos can be found on the Chef Cooperatives website as well as on their dedicated Youtube Channel. Visitors to the booth can pick up menu cards and be directed to vendor booths so that they can easily recreate the chefs’ dish.
“Supporting our local farmers, ranchers and artisan food companies is what we do, and this is a great way to connect the dots. A lot of people aren’t sure how to use some of the produce and things they find at the farmers market, so our chefs are exited to show them fun and delicious meals that are easy to prepare,” says Stephen Paprocki, President of the Chef Cooperatives. There’s just nothing tastier than a meal made using what we have at the farmers market, so we’re in for a real treat!”
Paprocki added, “Particularly during these really hot months, our farmers struggle because people just aren’t shopping and this has a big impact on their families and their ability to continue to provide our community with amazing fresh food. We’re hoping this will be an extra boost of encouragement. The best part about this is everybody benefits.
