As the summer comes to an end with the telltale sign of Labor Day, enjoy your day off from work with a little help from a tequila brand that knows how to mix things up.
Here are two cocktails from Hornitos Tequila that are perfect additions to your end of summer bash – whether you want to reward yourself with a light and refreshing Coctel del Barista,or spice things up with a Spicy Paloma.
See below for recipes for these delicious cocktails:
Spicy Paloma

- 1 ½ parts Hornitos® Black Barrel® Tequila
- ¾ part fresh ruby red grapefruit juice
- ¾ part fresh lime juice
- ½ part agave syrup
- Jalapeño
- Grapefruit
Preparation: Lightly muddle ¼ grapefruit and 4 slices jalapeño in a shaker. Combine remainder of ingredients into the shaker over ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a grapefruit slice.
Their most highly awarded tequila, Hornitos® Black Barrel®, starts as a premium, aged Añejo, then spends four months in deep charred oak barrels to give it rich, smoky flavor and a golden amber color. It spends an additional two months in specially toasted barrels for more depth and distinct complexity.
Coctel del Barista

- 1 ½ parts Hornitos® Reposado Tequila
- 2 parts fresh brewed black tea
- ¾ parts fresh lemon juice
- ½ part agave syrup
- 2 dashes Angostura® bitters
- Lemon wheel
Preparation: Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
Boldly born in 1950, to celebrate the anniversary of Mexican independence, Hornitos® debuted as a Reposado, one of the first of its kind. They made Reposado decades before it became common practice, and to this day, it remains a symbol of their shot taking spirit.
Here’s to the shot takers. The ones who, like us, believe nothing great ever happens if you don’t take a chance. Because that’s #AShotWorthTaking.
