Out-of-Towners and Locals Alike Say Mokara Hotel & Spa the Best Place to Find Repose in Downtown San Antonio
The beauty, activities, food and drink are what draw thousands of people to the Alamo City each month. There are so many things to see and do you can’t possibly do them all in one weekend. But many people try to squeeze as much as they can into their visit. The River Walk alone can literally keep you busy for several days with shopping, riverboats, museums, eating & drinking and the festivals. There is just so much to do your feet will hurt and your energy will deplete unless you have a welcoming and comfy place to retreat to at the end of the day, or even during the day between your activities. Set slightly off the tourist path to offer a private refuge but still within easy walking distance of all the city’s downtown attractions, the Mokara Hotel awaits YOU.
I was invited to enjoy a night’s stay at the Mokara Hotel & Spa after attending the Moet & Chandon Dinner at Ostra a couple of weeks ago. This beautiful boutique hotel is situated right on the River Walk but will have you feeling like you are miles away from the hustle and bustle of the busy energy of the river. As soon as I pulled up to the front of this hotel the valet attendant got me on my way to a relaxing staycation. Walking into the plush lobby, I was instantly greeted by warm, friendly smiles where I was quickly checked into my room. I was also greeted to a cool pitcher of Citrus Thyme flavored agua fresca.
My tranquil room welcomed me with a cozy king bed complete with hand forged iron four posters and fine linens. The marbled bathroom had an over-sized Jacuzzi soaking tub for two, luxury bath products, a large separate shower, cotton robes & spa slippers and a full-sized hair dryer. The room also had a large desk plus a reading chair. Room amenities included plush as well as other useful items like:
- Irons with ironing boards
- Fully stocked refreshment center
- Nespresso Coffee maker
- Alarm clock
- Dual-line speaker phone
- WiFi Internet service
- LCD television with cable channels
- Non-smoking rooms
There was also a welcome gift of specialty cookies, candy, chocolate truffles and fruit. Thank you Mokara! They were delicious.
Take the time to get pampered and polished at this luxury spa!
The Mokara Spa is a sensory pleasure to the extreme. So as soon as I got checked into my room, it was time to book some me time. With both men’s and women’s Jacuzzi, wet & dry saunas, lockers, private men’s and women’s sanctuary lounges and 18 treatment rooms for just about any facial and massage treatment you could ask for, this spa is top notch. You will understand why the Mokara Spa has received so many accolades like being honored as a top spa by both Travel & Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler. Plus, the 2018 Forbes Travel Guide named Mokara as the only “Four Star Spa” in San Antonio. You will be pampered beyond imagination as every attention to detail is well thought out.
In addition to the spa, I headed out to the rooftop pool where I was able to get a light snack and drink at their Rooftop Cafe. Here you have a bird’s eye view of the city. If you are in the mood for an early morning workout, they have a state-of-the-art fitness center with towels, water and reading materials if you need them. And their salon offers manicure, pedicures, waxing, hair styling and makeup artistry. If you know of anyone getting married, or just having a girlfriends get-away, the Mokara would be a total re(treat)!
I love stopping into the Raw Bar at Ostra which opens onto the River Walk with views of tropical foliage, water birds, river boats and bridges crossing the river. Sit here on their extensive patio and day dream away! The restaurant offers full service for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The menu has something to please anyone but they stand out with their fresh seafood. Gulf Red Snapper, shrimp and oysters share with menu with salmon, ahi tuna, scallops and lobster which are flown in fresh daily. Of course you can also get a delicious burger, steak or pork chop if that’s your thing.
And the wines, beers and cocktails are very extensive, and of course, some of the best! The Alta Belleza by Casa Noble tequila, with only 563 bottles available in the world, is one gem to be savored here.
With 6 meeting, 3,726 square feet of flexible event space, WiFi and hard-wired Internet access & business center and audio/visual services all within steps of the beautiful River Walk, the Mokara Hotel is a perfect spot for corporate meetings. Your employees will thank you for booking here.
Wherever you go at this resort, you are surrounded by beautiful, plush furnishings reminiscent of the city’s past. This hotel truly is a tranquil sanctuary in the heart of San Antonio!
**Full Disclosure: I received a one-night stay at the Mokara Hotel and dinner at Ostra in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% mine.
