Bringing a Healthy Meal, Kindness & Comfort to the Community One Bowl of Soup at a Time at Boerne Soup Kitchen
Having dietary restrictions is something many people have to contend with every day. These dietary needs make eating out problematic if not impossible for lots of folks. Many restaurants have started adding at least one gluten-free option or vegan dish to their extensive menu to help accommodate these diet sensitive individuals. But most of us get tired of eating the same ol’ same ol’ every time we eat out. We all like variety to keep things fresh.
BSK is about healthy for the masses!
Boerne Soup Kitchen has made it a point to do just that, keep things fresh and inviting, no matter what your palate prefers. It’s a space where you can come to get healthy, good tasting food. Where anyone, even with a diet restriction, can feel comfortable eating a meal out with friends. This restaurant is proud to say it’s “100% gluten-free”. From their homemade cornbread to beer choices on the menu, you can enjoy a gluten-free meal. But they don’t stop there! They have dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan and yes, even Keto options. And every item is marked, making it easy to choose whether you are choosing for yourself or someone else.
BSK has an Extensive Menu
But the Boerne Soup Kitchen is about more than just soup. They have salads, entrees and even sides to round out their menu. The menu rotates on a weekly basis, so you always know there is something new to try next week. And everything uses the freshest seasonal ingredients they can find. Not only do they pride themselves in catering to dietary restrictions, they also cook everything from scratch each day. This means you are feeding the body the healthy foods it wants.
There are always four different soups on the menu. Today was Chilled Strawberry, Black Bean with Lime Crema, Creamy Basil & Tomato and Ham & Lentil. You can buy a bowl of soup or if you can’t decide and want to try them all, I suggest the Soup Shooters. I loved all the soups, but my favorite was the ham & lentil. However the chilled strawberry, which offered a cool refreshment for a hot summer day, was a close second.
Salad for today was either a Greek with all the deliciousness you might expect: Leaf Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, Feta cheese, onions and olives, or a Spinach, with oranges and pecans with poppy seed dressing. Fresh, sweet and tasty!
You can add on chicken or shrimp to either of these salads.
The entree of my choice today was the Sausage & Shrimp Jambalaya. Grilled jumbo shrimp atop the slightly spicy jambalaya sausage and rice was all just perfect.
The Grilled Shashito peppers were delicious with everything on the menu. In fact, I recommend you get into BSK when this is on the menu as it is really, really good. These peppers are very mild so don’t worry about the heat. With a sprinkling of salt, a splash of lime, some cilantro and cheese, and charred to perfection, you can’t possibly go wrong.
BSK is a place for community & friendship
Boerne Soup Kitchen also wanted somewhere you can feel safe bringing the whole family. A place to have fun sitting out on the beautiful shaded patio and having conversation while sipping a wine or beer while you play board or giant lawn games. BSK offers an extensive wine, beer (including gluten-free) and hard cider selection. You will find live music on the patio on Friday evenings. Saturdays you can have fun creating your own mimosa at their build your own specialty Mimosa Bar. Then sit back, eat delicious food and listen to live music from 12:00-3:00pm.
BSK invites you to “Catch the Vision”
This soup kitchen is also about kindness. The type of kindness that reaches out into their community by way of “Community Soup”. Patrons of the restaurant who come in for a meal can add a $2 cup of soup to their order which sponsors someone less fortunate. They can then write a note of encouragement to put on their chalkboard. This allows patrons to pay-it-forward by giving anyone who needs it a bowl of soup.
While at the restaurant be sure to browse the gift shop where you will find that unique gift for someone special (or you). Parking at the restaurant is ample which is rare in Boerne.
