San Antonio and Austin Vegan Restaurateurs Host First Public Wing Eating Competition
Join us tomorrow night at Earth Burger Park North to find out who will be the Vegan Victor! Rain or shine, it’s on! WEDNESDAY 4/16 Earth Burger Wing Eating Competition + $1,000 prizes, donations and bragging rights!
Two vegan restaurateurs have put their heads together and decided to “wing it!” On Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m., celebrity chef and founder of Green Vegetarian Cuisine, Earth Burger, and Bok Choy Mike Behrend, along with Austin-based PLOW (Plants Lead Our Way) Burger Isaac Mogannam, will host the first vegan wing eating contest at Earth Burger Park North at Blanco and IH 410.
A Fight To The Fullest
The competition is open to the public and contestants will have five minutes to eat as many “wings” as possible, with the winner receiving $1,000 in Earth Burger gift cards, along with a $1000 donation to an Earth Burger selected charity. The event will serve as the kick-off to the restaurant’s new “Wing Wednesday.”
To kick things off, Behrend and Mogannam will go head to head to see who can wing their way to vegan victory. What’s at stake? Bragging rights of course, along with a customized eco-friendly tee shirt declaring their victory for the world (or at least South Texas) to see.
Following the chef showdown, the main competition will take place with registered local competitors fighting for the finish and a chance to walk
away with a grand prize of $1,000 in Earth Burger gift cards—not to mention an additional $1,000 donated to an Earth Burger supported charity.
Celebrity judges will be on hand at the event to award gift cards for subcategories including “neatest eater,” “messiest eater,” and more.
Out Of This World Fun
In addition to wing-eating, the Earth Burger event will include a live DJ, wing sampling stations and ecofriendly vendors including Vianney tee shirts. Guests can take photos with the Veg King, enter gift card raffles and participate in social media interactive contests to add to the festive vibe.
“We will begin serving vegan wings on Wednesday nights at the Park North location, and we thought this would be a fun way to kick it off,” explains Behrend who will go head-to-head with Mogannam in a separate wing-eating competition for bragging rights.
“We want to introduce the public to how delicious vegan wings can be while doing something good for the community.”
Earth Burger’s “wings” are sourced from PLOW Distribution, a plant- based distribution company co-founded by Mogannam just three months after he opened PLOW Burger. With a goal of helping company operators offer elevated plant-based foods with ease, he now serves more than 50 clients ranging from food trucks to large chain hotels. His “wings” are a combination of soy and pea protein with a sugar cane “bone,” and are available in three deliciously distinct flavors: spicy buffalo, tangy barbecue and a sweet, savory Asian inspired gochujang, with five grams of protein per wing.
“They taste just like traditional wings if not better,” assures Behrend. “You have to taste them to believe it.”

Earth Burger was established in 2014 by the vegetarian pioneers of San Antonio, Texas who created Green Vegetarian Cuisine and Bok Choy. Their “big boom” idea was for Earth Burger to be one of the nation’s first plant-based drive-thrus offering a healthy, low calorie take on fast food for those on the go. Earth Burger’s goal is to provide people with great healthy choices at a great value, while at the same time doing something better for the planet. Earth Burger offers two locations in San Antonio (Park North & Nacogdoches) with a location in San Marcos and The Mall of America in Minnesota. Visit eatearthburger.com for more information.
