National Beer Day Brings Dollar Steals at Southerleigh and Beer Salts from Twang
National Beer Day is coming up on Sunday, April 7 and as they say, everything is bigger in Texas, including our beer traditions. If your looking to celebrate this beer holiday, here is some information from the San Antonio beer scene you just might like.
Twang is a San Antonio, Texas-based manufacturer of Beer Salt, a citrus flavored salt used to dress the rim of longnecks and beer mugs. Dressing beer is rooted in the Latin tradition of adding citrus and salt to beer; this drink ritual can be observed on the streets of Mexico and throughout South Texas.

Twang is sold in 46 states across the country and can be purchased at HEB, online and through Amazon. There are four popular Beer Salt flavors: Michelada, Lemon-Lime, Lime, and Hot Lime. The salts go best with Domestic Lagers, Mexican Imports or Belgian-style wheat beers. The Trevino family behind Twang grew up in San Antonio – with the company starting out of their garage – with easy access to these familiar flavors of citrus and salt. If your readers haven’t tried salting their beer yet, below is a how-to video on Beer Salt, feel free to share as an out-of-the-ordinary way to celebrate National Beer Day.
Meanwhile, Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery, the craft brewery and restaurant located at Pearl in San Antonio, will be celebrating the holiday by offering a Progressive Happy Hour on April 7 on draft beer during specific times, including:
4 to 5 p.m. – $1 per pint
5 to 6 p.m. – $2 per pint
6 to 7 p.m. – $3 per pint
7 to 8 p.m. – $4 per pint
8 to 9 p.m. – $5 per pint
Balanced in the old and new, Southerleigh is located in a historic regional brewery, the Pearl, and is brewing craft beer in the same location that two previous generations of brewers have brewed in for nearly 120 years. Southerleigh takes huge honor in what they do, which allows them to give back to the community that supported this brewery and was vital to the San Antonio economy. Southerleigh’s brews consist of a balance of stylistic beers, and the fun fruits, proteins, herbs, and barrels stuff we have incorporated into our philosophy. Popular year-round beers include Southerleigh Gold Export Lager (balanced and smooth German style lager) and Texas Uncommon (California common style).
Southerleigh Fine Food & Brewery, helmed by San Antonio Chef Jeff Balfour, brings a modern take on Texas’ cross-cultural cuisine to Pearl. Influenced by the coastal classics of Chef Balfour’s upbringing in Galveston married with the comfort of southern cuisine, Southerleigh boasts a curated, seasonally shifting menu that reflects Chef Balfour’s innovative craftsmanship. Southerleigh will house a custom manufactured brewery designed by Portland Kettle Works, and brings brewing back to Pearl offering 21 different beers on tap. Southerleigh is located at 136 East Grayson, Suite 120, on the ground floor in the historic Pearl brewhouse.
