Three Fiesta San Antonio Gowns From Past Years are on Display at JW Marriott San Antonio
There are many things that celebrate San Antonio, Texas’ unique culture but Fiesta San Antonio tops the list. In order to help guests get into the Fiesta spirit, JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa is displaying three Fiesta San Antonio gowns, one from the 2015 Order of the Alamo’s coronation and pageant and the other two from the 2016 Order of the Alamo.
Fiesta San Antonio is an annual festival held in the spring in San Antonio and has been the city’s signature event since the late 19th century. Fiesta has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures.
In 2015, the Order of the Alamo’s coronation and pageant celebrated with a tribute to the islands of the world. In 2016, The Court of Grecian Glory and the birthplace of Western civilization, Greece, was celebrated.
The royal garments on display are adorned with bugle beads; holographic, metallic and iridescent sequins; Swarovski and Aurora Borealis crystals; glass baguettes; semi-precious stones; rhinestone chains and dramatic gowns with 18-foot long trains weighing 60 to 120 pounds. In 2015, Queen Lida Wilhelmina Emilia Steves, Queen of the Court of Captivating Islands wore a gown with a train that alone weighed 120 pounds.

Allison Leighton Donnell, Duchess of Transcendent Traditions’ train is set on a silk background with clusters of Aurora Borealis beads. The train’s border features an emerald-cut crystal rhinestone banding set off with mirror stones. The silk lace gown of bugle and peach seed beads and pearls features a worry bead motif padded for a 3D effect.

Claudia Abbey Strunk, Duchess of the Flames of Creation’s gown has a mosaic pattern of turquoise velvet, crinkled satin and sequins which is embellished with bicone crystals, iridescent sequins and bugle beads resembling a volcano’s terrain. The train is teal, yellow, orange and red and covered in crystals, sequins and lava-like jewels.

Featured at the center of the queen’s train is the magnificent compass rose, which is covered with bugle beads and rhinestone chain. Large turquoise baguettes and large red, pear-shaped Swarovski jewels make up the points of the compass. The large Order of the Alamo crest at the base of the train is mostly embroidered and beaded with gold and brown bugle beads, large crystal stones and gold bullion. The queen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bell Steves, II and Mr. and Mrs. Douglass MacLeod Finlayson. The train alone weighs 120 pounds.
