Upscale Hotel with Scenic Views & Top Amenities: Sonesta Bee Cave Austin
**Full Disclosure: I received a one-night stay at Sonesta Bee Cave in exchange for my review, but not to worry, all opinions are 100% mine.
I found the perfect place to unwind at the end of the day, whether its after a long business meeting or a girl shopping day. I was invited to Sonesta Bee Cave for a night stay to get a guest’s view of all they have to offer. This quaint hotel nestled in the small town of Bee Cave amid the Texas Hill Country has something for everyone. If you are here for business or just to relax you will find everything you need at Sonesta Bee Cave. Its contemporary chic, laid-back charm along with beautiful Hill Country views will draw you in and its amenities will keep you coming back. Only 2o minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport makes it convenient to travelers. And being only 10 miles to downtown Austin makes it a quiet getaway for couples and families needing a little R&R from the city life.
Sonesta Bee Cave was awarded Hotel of the Year 2018!
If you need a place to take care of business, this hotel offers 10,000 square feet of function space well-equipped and well-staffed to ensure your meeting will be perfect. Additionally, they have a ballroom that can be divided into five smaller rooms, two meeting rooms and an executive boardroom. When you are looking for a venue for your function, let them be your go-to spot. With their State-of-the-art audio/visual equipment, Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the hotel and the 24-hour business center, you will be well connected.
If you need a place that’s comfy for some rest and relaxation, you will find it here. Sonesta Bee Cave is the only full-service hotel in the area with 195 guest rooms that include luxury bedding & amenities. I applaud them for their attention to detail like the Keurig coffeepot, Sonesta deluxe robe, the full-sized hair dryer and the complimentary high-speed wireless internet access.
After a long day of business meetings, you could probably use some time in the fitness center. A little stretching and cardio workout might be just the thing to liven your senses. This hotel has a fully equipped fitness center that is open 24/7. If you feel the need for fresh air and nature take a walk or jog on the 2.3-mile trail around the property. Or take a swim in the outdoor pool complete with sun deck and inviting outdoor furniture.
When you get hungry, maybe some Texas Tapas at the hotel’s restaurant, Meridian 98, will suite your fancy. It did mine! This upscale rooftop lounge with its wood interior and leather furnishings is fashioned after an authentic London club. Here you will find delicious small plates with group tables just right for sharing with friends, your besties or a large family. They do have small more intimate tables for couples on a date night.
Executive Chef Patrick Newman exquisitely showcases seasonal dishes that are locally sourced from Texas farmers and fisherman. I enjoyed trying several dishes from the menu for a tapas style dinner.
The first dish I tried was the Bacon Wrapped Gulf Shrimp with crispy jalapeños, Brule Grapefruit, and maple Gastrique Honeycomb which was easily my favorite. I just love seafood and these shrimps were large, plump, sweet and perfectly cooked.
My second choice was the Pulled Pork Nachos with green chili queso, pico, jalapeño, pickled red onions and spicy BBQ sauce. The pork was tender and juicy, the vegetables were fresh, and the chips were crisp. You can’t ask for better than that. It was a tasty nacho plate (Tex-Mex meets BBQ) and ample enough for two or more persons.
My third choice was Green Chili Shredded Pork Tacos made with the same pork as the nachos, corn relish, shredded lettuce, shredded Oaxaca cheese and salsa verde. I could choose either 2 or 4 tacos. I liked that the corn tortillas were soft, not crispy which always makes them easier to eat. These were a lot like the Mexican street tacos that are so well liked in Central Texas. Excellent flavor.
For dessert I had the Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet served warm with rich chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup. More than enough for two, this dessert answered the call of the sweet tooth. Note: everything on the menu is farm to table fare and locally sourced as much as possible.
The restaurant has a full-service bar with a selection of 10 signature cocktails. Last year Meridian 98 hosted a Liquid Arts Contest, which allowed guests to select a new signature cocktail for their Fall/Winter menu. Winning the contest was the Beehive, which features Garrison Brothers Straight Bourbon, St. George Absinthe Verte, fresh lemon juice, Bee Friendly honey, and lavender bitters. Of course, I had to give this festive cocktail a sip. It was everything I had hoped it would be. I have found that you can’t go wrong with Garrison Brothers Bourbon. Note here: all cocktails are made with Texas spirits and local honey.
Besides cocktails, the Sonesta Bee Cave has a nice selection of wines (red, white, rose and bubbles), beer and other spirits. Happy Hour gets you $2 off craft cocktails, house wines & beer + $2 off their select menu items.
Monday – Thursday 4 – 7pm
Sunday – 4pm to close
And Wednesday & Thursday nights are Live Music Nights from 6 – 9pm.
Meridian 98 also serves breakfast buffet style which I enjoyed before checking out. Available were some Tex-Mex favorites like Chiliqualles eggs and refried beans along with bacon and two types of sausage, danish, muffins, bagels, assorted fruit, and cereal. They had cold cuts, lox, cream cheese, chopped egg and capers for a more European touch. To drink was orange juice, hot tea, and the best tasting coffee I have had in a long time. This medium-dark roast was smooth and an eye-opener.
The restaurant sits on the rooftop of the hotel and has a large wrap-around terrace with dramatic views of the surrounding Hill Country. The terrace allows for additional cozy outdoor seating.
The Meridian 98 has healthy options on all their menus in case you just got back from one of those workouts and don’t want to overdo on a meal. Just saying!
