Popular Morning Restaurant, Snooze an A.M. Eatery, Opens in The Strand
**Full Disclosure: I received breakfast in exchange for my review, but not to worry, all opinions are 100% mine.
San Antonio is too big for a popular restaurant like Snooze to have only two locations. We needed more locations to easily partake of this delectable Breakfast/Brunch spot. Today, February 20 Snooze opened their third location at The Strand at 11255 Huebner Road, Suite 100, San Antonio, TX. The 3,975 square-foot space will give San Antonians exactly what they asked for: a third spot for day-time pancake eating and mimosa drinking! With 112 seats indoor and an additional 58 seats on the dog-friendly patio, Snooze will be the best new spot for morning celebrations in the Huebner area. Their first location to open in San Antonio was at The Quarry, 255 East Basse Road Suite 160 with their second location being at The Vineyard, 1305 N. Loop 1604 W.
I was asked to come by the newest Strand location on their Opening Day for breakfast and I couldn’t resist. I know they have out-of-this-world pancakes you can’t find anywhere else and I love this breakfast treat. And being it’s so close to National Pancake Day (March 12) this is the perfect spot to celebrate this American favorite. Today’s special pancake was the Sweet Cannoli Cakes which I had to try and so will you once you see what’s in them. These buttermilk pancakes are topped with a house made maple butter sauce, a deconstructed cannoli, sweet ricotta, pomegranate seeds, mocha crumble and a chocolate drizzle. That’s what I’m talking about.
By the way, if you can’t decide on a pancake flavor (so many tasty choices here) you can choose 3 pancakes for a pancake flight. I like to call this pancake nirvana!
I also wanted to try the French Toast Neat, as I do so love a good plate of French Toast. I needed to know how Snooze’s dish compares to others I have tried. The menu says that the version I tried “is for the purist” which is the way I like my toast. French toasted brioche completed with whipped mascarpone cream, seasonal fruit and Slopeside pure Vermont maple syrup was simple and flavorful without too many extra add-ons. Definitely a winner for me. My new go-to place for this dish.
They have great coffee drinks with a nice Barista for those of us who love more than just a cup of Joe. And if you need something a little more grown up, they have some morning cocktails that get my stamp of approval. The Mmm Mmm Mimosa is a nice, not overly spirited drink of Snooze Sparkling, Orange Juice, and Pama Pomegranate Liquor. Or for those brunchies who like a Bloody Mary, the Bangkok puts a nice twist on things with a touch of spicy. Made with 1876 Vodka, Sriracha, Lime, Cilantro, Basil, Fish Sauce & House Bloody Mix it is pretty darn good if I do say so. Add a thick slice of yummy bacon for a little extra charge cause you are worth it and because we know everything is better with bacon.
I found the Breakfast Pot Pie under “flavors from the hen” section and I had to have it. With Snooze’s homemade rosemary sausage gravy smothering a flaky puff pastry, topped with an egg your style (I’d say sunny side up!) it was the savory to my sweet. Complete this dish with hash browns and you can’t go wrong. You can also never go wrong with the Eggs Benedict or benny as Snooze calls them. You can stick with the original version, the Ham Benedict III, a classic on their signature English muffin topped with shaved hickory smoked ham, perfectly poached cage free eggs and (a slight twist here) smoked cheddar hollandaise. They have several mouthwatering versions to choose from. Can’t decide which to choose? Pick any two Eggs Benedict for a Benny duo! This dish comes with a side of hash browns too.
Even though today was opening day for this new Snooze at The Strand, the word is already out and the place was packed. Even all the stools at the bar were taken. I’m thinking San Antonio may need a forth location very soon…. hint, hint.
Be forewarned Snooze doesn’t take reservations. They are a walk in, first come-first serve kinda place. So you may have a bit of a wait a peak times.
