San Antonio’s First “Menudo Madness Festival & Cook-Off”
WHO: The first annual Menudo Madness Festival & Cook-Off is brought to you on March 10 by Sabor! Cocina Mexicana, Moonlight Ballroom & Conference Center, and Texas Wrestling Entertainment.
WHAT: Menudo Madness Festival & Cook-Off will be a fun-filled, family-friendly event to give San Antonians a platform to showcase and celebrate a favorite local dish that is as synonymous with San Antonio as anything else. We invite menudo-lovers of all ages to see, smell and taste the best of what this city has to offer, and we know it’s going to be delicious!
Home cooks, as well as professional chefs, will compete to determine whose menudo recipe reigns supreme. Currently, the event has over a dozen competitors, and is still accepting more entries. Interested parties should sign up via the website, menudomadness.com, as soon as possible.
So why menudo? “We have major taco, chili and even burger competitions, but nobody was really throwing down on menudo the way we knew San Antonio could!”
“In my hometown of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, everyone’s family has their own take on menudo, but there are a couple of mainstays. For example, there always has to be some spice of course, and good tripe, oregano and diced onions. Texans also love adding hominy to their menudo, which I have grown to appreciate,” said Luis Vazquez, one of the event founders and owner of Sabor! Cocina Mexicana.
Participants will be judged on the use of fresh ingredients, spiciness, color and texture, as well as creativity. The event guests as well as a panel of judges will determine the winners, who will receive cash prizes.
A cash bar for wine and beer, as well as some incredible micheladas, will be available during the event.
ENTERTAINMENT: In addition to live music provided by conjunto band, Armando Arciniega y Talento Norteño, the afternoon of delights will include fun, family-friendly live pro wrestling from 2 to 4 pm, weather-permitting.
Fans will be thrilled to learn that Lucha Underground star, Daga, will be making an appearance at the event.
Additionally, arts and crafts vendors will be set up for guests to browse and shop.
