Special Leaf is a New Artisanal Beverage that Delivers an Awesome Healthy Punch

Chris Cook is a San Antonio Chef/Consultant at Cook Consulting, V.P. of Chef Cooperatives and now the Chief Tea Brewer and Owner of Special Leaf, a new artisanal beverage company. His first three products are very unique, delicious and healthful teas made from the leaves of olive trees.

Special Leaf will initially be offering a line of specialty artisanal bottled teas made from the leaves of olive trees that are not just delicious and thirst-quenching, but offer an array of health benefits as well. Special Leaf teas contain 200% more antioxidants than green tea and four times the Vitamin C of any other source.

Special Leaf just launched a Kickstarter Campaign to help support the company’s goals, and he needs your help:

Olive leaves, and its extract, have long been used in traditional medicine, as far back as Ancient Egypt, where it was considered a symbol of heavenly power. It contains various compounds, such as oleuropein, which are thought to positively influence health. Scientific studies have indicated it not only possesses antioxidant properties, but anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and immune-stimulating ones as well.

For example, according to Michigan Medicine at the University of Michigan, “in a double-blind trial, people with osteoarthritis of the knee had a significant improvement in their pain after taking olive leaf extract.”

The Special Leaf teas, which are meant to be enjoyed cold, come in three flavors: Original, Sweet, and Lemon Verbena. The ingredients are high-quality, all-natural, minimal and comparable in flavor to other popular iced teas, although just a little bit different.

“It’s a great replacement for traditional iced tea, although it doesn’t really taste like anything I’ve experienced before,” says Chef Cook. “It’s floral, semi-creamy, and leaves you with a nourished feeling like coconut water. It just leaves you feeling soulfully better. I drink about two quarts of it a day, and it helps with my arthritis so that I don’t have to rely on medications.”

Chef Cook was inspired to create Special Leaf teas after working for a Texas olive orchard several years ago.

“I’ve been a chef for 22 years, and have been wanting to work on this concept for about 6 years now. I’m happy to be able to finally bring it to fruition,” added Chef Cook.

This will be the first bottled olive leaf tea on the market, with other product concepts in development.

Although extremely healthful, the teas are meant to be everyday teas, enjoyed by everyone, and not just for those using it for its health benefits. Special Leafteas straddle the line between recreational drinks and medicinal teas.
