San Antonio Restaurant Family Icon, La Familia Cortez, Plans New Restaurant
La Familia Cortez Restaurants announced today their plans to open the company’s fifth restaurant. Located in THE RIM at 18403 IH-10, San Antonio, TX 78257, the new restaurant will be La Familia Cortez’s first full-service venture outside of Market Square.
La Familia Cortez will host a special reveal event and press conference in early 2019 to announce more details of the new restaurant, including the name, images of the design, and launch website and social media channels so guests can receive updates about the progress and opening date.
A privately held, family-owned company, La Familia Cortez Restaurants’ is the group behind Mi Tierra Café y Panadería with its adjacent Mariachi Bar, La Margarita Restaurant & Oyster Bar, Restaurante Pico de Gallo and Viva Villa Taquería. THE RIM location is tentatively scheduled to open in Summer 2019, and will be looking to select 150 new team members that fit the company’s mission, values and culture. Following in the footsteps of their founder, Pedro Cortez, La Familia Cortez Restaurants’ leadership team has transitioned to the third generation of the family and is carrying on the company’s mission and their grandfather’s vision.
“For the past 77 years my family has made downtown San Antonio our home and have dedicated ourselves to the preservation and promotion of our cultura. We are honored to have the opportunity to expand our grandparents’ legacy and welcome new familias into our home to share our comida and cultura while creating new memories,” shared Pete Cortez, COO of La Familia Cortez Restaurants and third generation family member.
The existing property at THE RIM will undergo a substantial reimaging to transform the space into a restaurant reminiscent of La Familia Cortez, but with its own distinct identity. Once complete, the restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with menus that reflect the most popular dishes from La Familia Cortez’s other restaurants, alongside authentic, chef-inspired dishes and family-style offerings. Guests can also expect to find pan dulce and Mexican candy from Mi Tierra’s world-famous bakery, a stately bar that evokes the best of Mexico serving craft cocktails alongside classic Mexican beers and margaritas, special programming to include live music and, of course, plenty of cultura including piñatas, Christmas lights and altars.
