Going Blue with its Second Edition in a Series of Special Releases: Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost & Rare Port Ellen

Johnnie Walker is going blue with its Blue Label Ghost and Rare Port Ellen , the second edition in a series of special releases created by Johnnie Walker Master Blender Dr. Jim Beveridge and his small team of passionate blenders using eight handpicked whiskies from the four corners of Scotland, including three irreplaceable ‘ghost whiskies’ from Scotch whisky distilleries that have long since closed and five incredibly rare malt expressions, from the Johnnie Walker Blue Label reserves, all of which are at least 20 years old. This exceptional Scotch whisky is part of the new whiskies being introduced to the Diageo Scotch portfolio from Johnnie Walker this Fall 2018. Diageo is a global leader in beverage alcohol.

At the heart of the second edition lies the highly sought-after whisky from the famed Island distillery of Port Ellen which closed its doors in 1983. The ghost whiskies from Caledonian and Carsebridge add layers of creamy, vanilla sweetness while rare malt expressions from Mortlach, Dailuaine, Cragganmore, Blair Athol and Oban deliver rolling waves of waxy citrus, rich malt and tropical fruit flavours – all perfectly balanced by the maritime smokiness of Port Ellen that lingers in the long and warming finish of this exceptional blend.

Jim is fascinated by how whiskies from a small number of iconic distilleries that closed many years ago can bring the extraordinary richness for which Johnnie Walker Blue Label luxury Scotch is renowned. From his library of irreplaceable casks, he has chosen a few uniquely full-bodied expressions of these precious malts and grains and blended them to let people explore, in a new way, the depth of character found in our pinnacle blend.

Johnnie Walker has stocks from more than 30 distilleries and from every region of Scotland from which to choose the perfect casks to craft each blend. It brings a diversity of character, flavor and age that no other Scotch can match.
