Enjoy Great World Cuisine at Botika with Their Daily Customized Bento Box
Botika, a Peruvian-Asian inspired eatery at the Pearl, is where you can enjoy great world cuisine. The Bento Box, a lunch special Botika is promoting for only $14, is a quick way to have a great, healthy lunch when you are in a rush. It comes with an “In-and-Out in under 30 minutes” guarantee, making it the perfect fast lunch choice. Each Bento Box contains 5 items which are customized by the culinary minds at Botika and change daily. So you won’t know what is offered in the daily Bento Box until you join them for lunch. But rest assured, it will always be a delightful combination of flavors. Every meal at Botika gives you a complete array of tastes; sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness as well as savoriness. This savory taste comes from meat broths and fermented products found in Botika’s dishes bringing them up to a level of taste experience not always found in other cuisines.
I was invited in to try a Bento Box recently and was happy to oblige, as I have wanted to try Botika’s food since it opened. To start off my meal I was given a Pisco Sour, a classic Peruvian cocktail. The cocktail made with Pisco Torontel “La Caravedo”, lime, sugar, egg white, and bitters makes a beautiful presentation with the Botika logo carefully placed on top. Pisco is an unaged grape brandy which has sweet, earthy, floral notes. Pisco Torontel is one of eight grape varietals of Pisco known for their intense citrus and floral aromas. Not only was this drink pretty, it was delicious, light, refreshing and complimented the meal today.
Before the Bento Box though, there was an appetizer of Goyzas (pot stickers) stuffed with pork and cabbage which were swimming in a beautifully smoked tea broth accompanied by sweety drop miniature peppers and topped with green onions. This was so delightful with so much flavor. I loved every bite of this dish.
My Bento Box was served within a few minutes of ordering and if I could have, I would have taken it outside for a picnic. Such a beautiful way to serve lunch any time of year. The Bento Box is a compartmentalized tray that keeps each of the 5 selections separated.
Today my Bento Box consisted of:
- Beef Tips with green and red onions, cabbage and matchstick carrots over steamed rice.
- Arugula Salad with cucumber & tomato with a citrus vinaigrette.
- Pickled mushrooms
- Poke (cebiche) which is the chef’s daily selection of fresh fish. Today’s selection was squid, tuna, and salmon which was tossed with creamy avocado all on a bed of sliced jimaca, carrot, and seaweed.
- Tostone (twice- fried plantain) with an avocado emulsion and a Peruvian salsa criolla.
Yes, this Bento Box carried all the tastes of sweet, salty, bitter, sour and savory and it was a cross of many world cuisines. And even though this lunch is designed for a quick meal option, it is very filling and delicious with all its fresh, whole foods. Executive Chef Geronimo Lopez brings a lovely new dimension to the cuisines in San Antonio with Botika. I suggest you get in to try it out!
Botika has a private event space that can take care of dinner parties or events of about 30-40 quests. They also have a large patio with plants and comfortable seating for an outdoor event or just sipping drinks and watching the activity at Pearl. It can serve as private cozy seating for couples or a fun happy hour space for larger groups.
