Childrens Ballet of San Antonio Presents Don Quixote de San Antonio!
The Childrens Ballet of San Antonio Presents DON QUIXOTE DE SAN ANTONIO, an official Tricentennial event, at the Majestic Theatre June 1-2, 2018.
WHAT: The award winning Children’s Ballet of San Antonio presents its latest production, Don Quixote de San Antonio. The performance marks the nonprofit ballet company’s exciting debut in the Majestic Theatre and its sixth production to date. Don Quixote de San Antonio honors the Alamo City’s rich history while following the premise of the Don Quixote Ballet Masterpiece with a San Antonio twist. Don Quixote sets out on his journey to San Antonio with his comedic sidekick, Sancho Panza as they set out to defend virtue on their search for love interest, Dulcinea. Along the way, they encounter a host of characters the whole family is sure to enjoy.
The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio has rapidly elevated the city’s standing in the arts since opening its doors in June 2015. Founder, Vanessa Bessler, and a long list of her lead dancers have brought home an impressive array of regional and national award “firsts” for San Antonio from the most prestigious ballet competitions available. These competitions serve to identify the most promising young talent around the world with the finals being comparable to the Olympics in the world of ballet.
WHO: The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio bridges the gap between young student and adult professional dancers. It is the only professional-level dance company in Texas to offer lead roles to young dancers as early as 8 years old and serves as a gateway for aspiring young dancers interested in pursuing a career in professional dance.
Don Quixote features a talented cast of 150 young artists, ranging in age from 3 to 19. The cast includes award winning classical dancers, talented special needs artists, and many other exceptional young children. Production leads include: Lucy Hassmann, Mackenzie Kirsch, Kate Thomas, Emma Hurtado, Kelda Kapoor, and Eliza Sell.
Bessler serves as Founder and Artistic Director and is a former principal dancer with the National Ballet of Panama and a Bolshoi Ballet Certified teacher with more than 15 years of teaching experience. Professional Ballet Masters include, Amy Fote and Natalia Bashkatova. Fote is a former American professional ballet dancer and principal dancer with the Houston Ballet and the Milwaukee Ballet. Natalia Bashkatova was born in Russia and performed as a principal dancer with the Bolshoi Theater Grigorovich Ballet then later as a guest principal dancer with the New York City Ballet.
