Lazy Sunday Supper Like it Should Be – The Rustic

Lazy Sunday Supper with a Side of Music at The Rustic

Remember the good old days when the family would get together for a lazy Sunday supper around the kitchen table and enjoy conversation. There were no cell phones then and everyone got real face time with the whole family. Sometimes you even had a few extended family members or close neighbors stop by to catch up. The supper was always filled with comfort food and old family recipes. It didn’t matter if you made them or it was a pot luck supper with everyone pitching in, everything always tasted so good, right! Well, The Rustic is bringing back the tradition of Sunday Supper, only this time you don’t have to do any cooking (you can do that next week if you wish). You can just sit back, enjoy conversation with friends and family, eat great food, listen to some local music and yes, sip of a local brew or signature cocktail. Awww, life is good!

The Rustic’s Sunday Supper is served family style (is there any other way) so everyone can get involved by passing and sharing. The food is down-home delicious with a twist. But wasn’t our home-cooked meal the same when someone else made their famous potato salad with that secret ingredient? It’s always fun, entertaining and finger licking wonderful.

Start your supper with one of their signature libations like I did. The Lone Star Daiquiri sounded Texan, but the 125-year-old family owned company Flor de Cana Rum from Nicaragua made it taste exotic. This 100% naturally aged rum enriched by the unique properties of the San Cristobal volcano has won more than 180 international accolades, making it one of the most awarded premium rums in the world. Can you just imagine what it adds to this drink? Along with Paula’s Grapefruit, Luxardo Maraschino & fresh-squeezed lime juice you have a cocktail for celebration! Or, if you prefer, you can have one of the many Texas beers on draft.

On the Sunday Supper menu, everyone can choose an entree (and there are three great selections).

FRIED CHICKEN half a bird hand-crusted with our special recipe. You get four big pieces.

WOOD-GRILLED CHICKEN ancho chile & brown sugar rubbed half a bird. You get three big pieces.

DOUBLE CUT PORK CHOP wood-grilled with smoked paprika, garlic and lemon juice.

Our choices were the Wood-Grilled Chicken and the Fried Chicken cause it isn’t Sunday to us unless it’s chicken of some sort.

The entree comes with all these unlimited sides:
GREEN SALAD young kale with a lemon dressing.

Lazy Sunday Supper

NEW POTATO SALAD creamy-style with fresh dill & green onion.

Lazy Sunday Supper

JALAPENO SPOON BREAD cornmeal, pickled jalapeño, white cheddar, creamed corn. This was my favorite side!

WHITE HOMINY broken posole, smoked ham, chipotle garlic cheese. This was my guests favorite side!

Lazy Sunday Supper

CLEAN & GREEN seasonal green vegetable, simply steamed. Today it was green beans!

It is all good and plenty, but if everyone is really hungry, you can order more of the sides for no additional cost.

The Sunday Supper price is $17.95 per person which is a great deal, especially with that side of music mentioned earlier.

They have a good selection of starters on the Sunday menu and a few great looking desserts, but you order those separately cause they aren’t included in the Sunday Supper price.

We did try the Wild Gulf Shrimp Cocktail with its spicy chile de arbol, avocado, cucumber, jicama, jalapeño and cilantro. It was served with home-made crackers that had chile de arbol sprinkled on them. Go easy cause this was pretty spicy, but very tasty. The cocktail had lots of big shrimp in it which kept us shrimp lovers happy.
