Progressive Street Choir takes the Bus
Museum Month SA and VIA Metropolitan Transit present the Progressive Street Choir “From Those Who Follow the Echoes” a pop-up choir performance aboard VIA’s VIVA culture bus on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017. Known for activating non-traditional performance spaces with music, From Those Who Follow the Echoes, led by Nathan Felix, will perform for riders on VIVA culture (Route 11A). The performance and the transportation are complimentary as an official Museum Month event.
The moving musical experience will depart the McNay Art Museum and Blue Star Contemporary Art Center at 1:05 and 2:05 p.m., on October 28, with a special stop at San Antonio Museum of Art. Musical processions at Bluestar Contemporary, the McNay, and San Antonio Museum of Art will guide audience-goers on the 11A for an opera on the bus during the two-hour window. The performance on the bus will then coalesce with another performing ensemble at the final stop, at either the McNay or Blue Star Contemporary, depending on which direction the bus is going. This is a unique performance that one must experience and not just hear. Visit viainfo.net for bus fares and schedules. Visit Electrochestral.com (click on FTWFTE) for more information on the choir. Interviews and promotional performances are available.
From Those Who Follow the Echoes is a community-centered choir that has a two-fold mission of bringing unique contemporary choral/classical music performances to San Antonio establishments as well as to new and underserved listeners. It started in 2015 and has since performed at hotel Emma, the McNay and worked with local artists. Artistically, Felix not only wants to raise awareness about the Via Viva bus route, but he wants to bring something completely new to San Antonio audiences. Felix is a composer who has been publishing and performing original work since 2005 in Austin, LA and all over the world.
