Botanica San Antonio’s Inaugural Music and Arts Festival Announced

A San Antonio group of investors, cultural partners and music industry veterans teamed to announce the formation of the first annual Botanica Music & Arts Festival. The festival is planned for March 3-4, 2018 at La Cantera in the parking lots of Six Flags Fiesta Texas. A new local live events company financed by San Antonio investors Graham Weston, Lew Moorman and many others will own and produce the festival. The festival’s management and production team includes music industry professionals who’ve previously worked for Live Nation, Circuit of the Americas, Insomniac Events, Creative Artists Agency, TTF Entertainment, and Universal Music Group. Individuals in this group have also produced and/or founded other major music festivals including Voodoo Music & Arts Experience, Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) Las Vegas, Beyond Wonderland, SXSW, and Moonrise Festival.

This new, annual event will feature current and iconic Pop, EDM, Hip-Hop, and Rock musical acts at the national, regional and local levels. Botánica’s fun festival experience will be filled with local food and drink, games, activities and arts that celebrate San Antonio’s rich culture and progressive energy. Botanica promises to be a new annual tradition for the people of San Antonio, highlighting the special flavors, sights and experiences unique to our city and South Texas.

The festival’s initial artist lineup announcement is led by:

• Major Lazer: Founded by Diplo, Major Lazer is the world’s 4th most streamed artist on Spotify, a perennial festival headliner, and one of the most successful pop/EDM producers in the industry.

• Logic: This 2016/17 breakout hip-hop artist’s inspiring song 1-800-2738255 is currently Spotify’s most streamed song and is No. 1 on Billboard’s “On Demand Streaming Songs” chart with 34.2 million total streams for the week ending Sept. 14.

• Deftones: LA’s iconic rock/metal band, led by Latino rocker Chino Moreno, has sold over 10 million albums worldwide.

• Alessia Cara: This 21-year-old artist already has four top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 to her name, including two solo singles and two collaborations including “Stay” with Zedd and “1-800-273-8255” with Logic.

Additional first announce acts include Blackbear, DJ Diesel (NBA legend, Shaquille O’Neal), Bishop Briggs, Brett Young, Biters, Carlton Zeus, the New Respects, Stoop Kids. More lead and support musical acts will be added in November 2017.

“I know firsthand from my years at Rackspace that our city is in a tough battle for young talent,” said Graham Weston, representing the Botánica investor group. “Young people often decide where to locate based on lifestyle choices, and shared music experiences can be a big part of that. Other cities have clearly benefited from large, locally owned, mainstream music fests, and our hope is that Botánica can be that kind of festival for San Antonio. Our local ownership group has teamed with music industry professionals to build a festival that is right for our city.“

“San Antonio is really at a special moment in time. I think all of us that live here can feel it,” added David Heard, one the Botanica founders. “This festival was inspired by the tremendous growth, energy and creative shift happening all across our great community. Our hope is to build a landmark music event for, by, and of the people of San Antonio and South Texas. We feel like the time is now and that San Antonio is ready.”

Botánica is locally owned and operated. Production spending and revenues will largely stay in San Antonio, providing a direct boost to the local economy. The Botánica team has a first-year, local economic impact goal of $15-20 million to local tourism, bar and restaurant, hotel, retail, staffing, and hospitality businesses. The team hopes to grow this impact over time.
