Pop Up ThanksGIVING Dinner Presented by the Chef Cooperatives Benefits Gardopia Gardens
A Pop Up ThanksGIVING feast presented by the Chef Cooperatives to raise funds for Gardopia Gardens will feature a NINE COURSE DINNER using local ingredients.
WHO: The San Antonio’s Chef Cooperatives, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization comprised of San Antonio chefs, raises funds through pop-up dinners to support South Central Texas farmers, ranchers and vintners. Gardopia Gardens, also a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, educates people of all backgrounds about health and wellness through gardening, nutrition, physical activity and maximizing environmental sustainability. The Gardopia urban farm/garden at 619 N. New Braunfels on the Eastside is the focus of this epic pop-up dinner.
Local band Dirty Genez will provide LIVE MUSIC.
WHAT: The Pop Up ThanksGIVING Feast will feature a NINE COURSE DINNER using local ingredients created by Chef Jeff White, Stephen Paprocki, John O’Larnic, Toby Soto, Ed Villarreal, Tyler Horstmann, Mark Chapman, Adrian Davila, Melissa Beverage and Jenn Stipp White. (See menu below.) One hundred percent of the funds raised will be donated to Gardopia to support their efforts, including building a wellness center on the eastside.
“We fell in love with Gardopia Gardens because they’re not just an urban farm, they’re doing things differently – educating people about gardening, teaching kids how to grow food and plant seedlings. Plus, they’re putting up small houses on the property that can be utilized by the neighborhood homeless, who can stay there while they’re transitioning,” Chef Paprocki explained. “In turn, they help out with the garden and protect the neighborhood. They’re really working to help clean up this block, which statistically has some of the highest incidences of crime on the Eastside. What they’re doing is a story in and of itself!”
Gardopia Gardens founder Stephen Lucke is thrilled to work with Chef Cooperatives. “I really feel blessed. We’ve been doing this work for a while now. It’s not easy starting an organization, but we’re glad the Chef Cooperative recognized us. It shows we’re gaining traction to promote health and wellness,” Mr. Lucke shared.
