Watching Soccer in a Pub and Eating Great British Fare, What More Could You Ask For?

The first Lion & Rose opened in Alamo Heights in 2004 and there are several locations in San Antonio. Lion & Rose @ The Rim first graced us with their presence August 2015’ and since the doors first opened this place has been booming non-stop with its contemporary-modern vibe. The Rim location is a far contrast from the Broadway location, which has more of a traditional décor. Lion & Rose is the number one soccer bar in town with Arsenals fans frequenting the Broadway location and the Liverpool clique making The Rim the place to watch the game.

Wait there’s more and this really got me excited, Lion & Rose has things going on all the time, they have Trivia night, Karaoke night, and open Mic night! I love Karaoke and I will definitely be checking this out in the near future. Check out their website for more info about various events.

Booking a private event indoors or outdoors for any reason this location can accommodate you and with style! They have surround sound and can even cater to your choice of music with private seating.

Lion & Rose is local and solely owned by Allen Tharp, and we thank you Allen for gracing us with this delectable gem.

We had the Scotch Eggs and fell in love, these hard-boiled eggs wrapped in banger sausage with cheddar cheese is comfort food with a bang! It’s hard to believe they are only appetizers, because they are not only plump and scrumptious, but they come with field greens so you get the best of both worlds.

Next, we had some Diablo Chicken Bites and this is a bacon lover’s dream, chicken tenderloin bites wrapped in applewood bacon with jalapenos. These are juicy and tangy with a kick and I needed a lot of napkins, but it was worth it.
This is the place for soups, and we had two delicious piping hot soups. First we had the Tomato beef soup and this is tangy tomato soup with loads of beef, absolutely delectable.
Next we had the French Onion Soup and it was dripping with caramelized onions, croutons, and melted provolone cheese, and there was nothing skimpy about this little bowl of pleasure.
The Jameson Bacon Cheddar hamburger is one of the best hamburgers I’ve had in a long time. This ½ lb Angus burger dripping in Jameson BBQ sauce and melted cheddar cheese made me not want to share it with my husband. It was juicy and cooked just right, (medium) served on a toasty Kaiser bun.
We also had the Lamplighter Skillet and this hearty meal is for your meat and potatoes kind of person, it’s hearty, filling and I promise it will be naptime after you finish. It’s grilled chicken breast on a bed of peppers and onions served with loaded potatoes on a sizzling iron skillet.
Nothing traditional about Lion’s Fish and Chips, it’s fried crispy just like I like it! Large juicy pieces of white fish served with remoulade sauce and a side of crispy fried chips.

Lion & Rose has 32 different draft beers and they feature European brands as well as about 8 Texas crafted beers. No…I didn’t try them all, but I did sample the following:

The Cucumber Cosmo and it’s fresh, light and is a vacation waiting to happen. It has melon liquor, lemon-lime juice with cucumber vodka.

We also had the Peaky Blinder with Jameson Irish Whiskey, which is Lion & Rose’s version of the Moscow Mule. This is the ultimate winter drink and we sipped on it right in front of the fireplace, aww so titillating to the tongue.
The Sticky Toffee pudding made in house is to die for! It’s layers of warm sponge cake dripping in succulent toffee sauce. This is a meal in itself.
King’s Bread Pudding is not your traditional bread pudding; it’s bread pudding on steroids! This is also homemade and it has lots of cinnamon, loads of cranberries served on a hot plate sizzling with vanilla brandy sauce.

**Full Disclosure: I received dinner in exchange for my review.  All opinions in this post are totally mine.
