Conde de Vimioso, an elegant, fresh white wine, is produced by Falua, Sociedade de Vinhos, a progressive wine making company owned by João Portugal Ramos. This brand new winery in the Tejo region of Portugal is located about 70 km north of Lisbon near the Tagus river.
Viticulture has deep roots in Tejo and is well known as one of the oldest wine producing regions in the country. The Tagus river has been lined with vineyards since Roman times. The river, which has shaped the Tejo terroir, also made the surrounding plains and riverbanks perfect for growing Portugal’s native grapes.
João Portugal Ramos has been working with and producing wines for over 20 years, making him a leading authority in winemaking. Falua’s state of the art facility along with João’s keen sense of understanding what makes a great wine has allowed the personality of their wines to come out. Each wine produced at Faula is constantly enhanced and recreated for a superior product that is gaining recognition worldwide.
Conde de Vimioso White wine is made from two grape varieties. The Arinto white grape is one of the most cultivated in Portugal. Wine from this grape is fruity, acidulous and highly complex. The Fernao Pires is another popular white grape in the Tejo region. Most of the wine produced from this grape are intense with floral aroma, hay colored and give a good long finish.
The Conde de Vimioso White 2014 is a soft, fresh citrus colored wine with some pineapple, mango aroma along with floral notes.
This is a nice crisp, clean wine that is best paired with shrimp, seafood pasta or any light summer dish. An elegant wine for an alfresco lunch.
I loved the crispness and delicate intensity this wine brought to the meal. This wine is a great value, priced at around $10.
