Local Diner Introduces a 1960s-Inspired Retro Roadside Remix Menu at the End of June
Local diner, The Hayden, is excited to introduce their Retro Roadside Remix Menu June 29th.
Located at 4025 Broadway St., San Antonio, TX 78209, The Hayden will feature a 1960s-inspired Retro Roadside Remix Menu, largely inspired by the Howard Johnson restaurant chain, from Wednesday, June 29th through Friday, July 1st from 9am-10pm (or until sell-out) for dine in and to-go.
Over the last year, The Hayden has found fun in featuring several limited-time remix menus including a Jewish-Chinese Christmas Menu, and a Jewish-Irish Remix Menu. This summer, they are introducing a unique Retro Roadside Remix Menu.

With gas prices on the rise, The Hayden is encouraging guests to take a “road trip” to The Hayden this summer to experience their limited-time menu. Owner, Adam Lampinstein, and Chef Bill Corbett were inspired by the well-known Howard Johnson restaurant chain, which was a longtime roadside staple. Family road trips and meals at the Howard Johnsons during the 1950s-1960s, were a cornerstone of family summer fun. Often referred to as HoJo’s, the restaurant/hotel chain served classic comfort food and offered affordable hotel accommodations. For families hitting the road for summer trips, it was a home away from home. In June 2022, the last Howard Johnson in Lake George, New York closed, ending the restaurant’s 70-year stint in business.
The menu features The Hayden’s take on a selection of signature Howard Johnson items, as well as several other menu items that were inspired by the theme. Menu features include:
Shrimp Cocktail
Jumbo Shrimp with Everything Cocktail Sauce, Sliced Lemon
Pina Jello Salad with Citrus Sherbert
Chopped Fruit in Pineapple Jello. Mangonado Sherbert. Tajin. Chamoy (Its Puro 1950’s)

A message from The Hayden: “Because it’s not the destination it’s the journey. So gather up the ones that matter most and we promise you’ll get here before you know it, and enjoy one of the best parts of a summer road trip, without the gas prices. Travel to a simpler time when the food was greasy, the conversation surprising and the good times already happening.”
