Estancia del Norte Offers Special Dessert for 2022 Girl Scout Cookie Flavor Fest

Estancia del Norte is once again supporting another great organization, the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas.

Whether you’re team Thin Mints® or team Tagalongs®, when it comes to Girl Scout Cookies, most people agree that one box is never enough. Don’t worry! The Estancia del Norte will be offering plenty of ways for you to get your “fix”.

New Dessert

And you can get your “fix” all while supporting the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. We all know everyone gets goo-goo eyed for these American iconic cookies at this time of year. And this dessert, Samoas® Pot de Crème created by Pastry Artist Amanda Rubio, is just in time for February, the “loveliest” time of the year. Stop by the hotel between February 18-27 and you will be able to enjoy this amazing dessert. They are also pairing it with Croft Reserve Tawny Port if you desire. You will be totally smitten once you try it!

Fix 1 – Flavor Fest

From February 18-27, guests of the hotel “where San Antonio goes to celebrate,” will be able to enjoy a special dessert and drink pairing from LAZO with Don Strange as part of the 2022 Girl Scout Cookie Flavor Fest by Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. Created by Pastry Artist Amanda Rubio, the limited-edition “Samoas® Pot de Crème,” captures everything you love about the chocolaty, coconutty Samoas® cookie in every creamy, dreamy, bite. The flavors are accented by Croft Reserve Tawny Port, a wine carefully chosen by food and beverage director Sammy Norris for its hints of caramel, butterscotch, and strawberry jam flavors. A portion of proceeds from sales of the dessert and wine will go to the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas in support of their mission to build “girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.”

A “Gold Level” Chef

The mission of empowering young women and giving them the tools they need to succeed is especially important to LAZO head chef Sarah Myles, who was a part of the organization for 13 years.

“Girl Scouts was a huge part of my childhood,” says Myles, who achieved “Gold Level” scout status in her hometown of Seattle, Washington. With more than 100 badges and thousands of cookies under her apron, this talented culinary artist credits the organization for making her the leader she is today.

“I was a shy kid and Girl Scouts helped me make friends and gave me confidence,” she explains, adding that it nurtured her budding culinary interests too and taught her skills that she still utilizes daily.

“I was always interested in food, so I was put in charge of menu planning and writing the grocery lists for our campouts,” she recalls. “Basically, I’ve been doing menu development and drafting order guides since I was in elementary school.”

Now she is sharing those skills with members of Troop 608 as she helps them earn their culinary arts badges. The troop will work with Myles, and sous chef Haley Unruh in the show kitchen where they will learn not only how to prepare a dish of their choosing, but also “serve safety methods” including cleaning procedures, knife safety, the hierarchy of proteins, and the “first in first out” (FIFO) protocol.

“We are really excited to be helping these girls earn their culinary arts badge and teaching them the ins and outs of the kitchen,” says Myles. “Even if they
don’t go into the hospitality industry, these are life skills that will serve them well.”

Fix 2 – Purchase a Box or Two to Take Home

For those who want their cookies straight out of the box, you’re in luck! On Saturday, February 19, the hotel lobby will be home to the girls of Troop 608, who will have plenty of boxes available for purchase. Additionally, the hotel will be purchasing 50+ cases of cookies that will be handed out to clients and guests.

“We are 100% committed to supporting the mission of the Girl Scouts of America, and helping these young women achieve their goals,” says Austin VandeVate, General Manager at the flagship property.

Buying Girl Scout cookies does more than just satisfy the sweet tooth, it satisfies a need in the community. Every purchase helps these young entrepreneurs develop five essential life skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Furthermore, every penny of the net revenue raised through the Girl Scout Cookie Program stays with the local council and troops.

“The skills that these young women learn as part of the Girl Scouts are in line with the core beliefs that we as a company value,” continues VandeVate. “It is an honor for us to include the Girl Scouts as part of our Estancia Cares program, as we help to cultivate the next generation of leaders in San Antonio.”
