Exciting Program Schedule for the 2018 Jazz’SAlive Music Festival Has Been Revealed

On Thursday, June 7th, a cocktail reception was held at Bohanan’s Prime Steaks and Seafood, to announce the exciting program schedule for this year’s Jazz’SAlive Music Festival. During the reception, The San Antonio Parks Foundation revealed the headliner entertainment line-up for the festival which will take place September 21st & 22nd in historic Travis Park.

During the reception guests enjoyed the perfect complement for an evening of jazz, a smooth, hand-crafted Trombone Daiquiri. This luscious cocktail, a mix of Plantation Pineapple Rum, lime juice and sugar, helped set the tone of the reveal. Below is the recipe for this cocktail which you can enjoy at home while listening to some smooth, easy-listening jazz.

The San Antonio Parks Foundation has announced details for the much anticipated 35th Annual Jazz’SAlive Music Festival. The City of San Antonio’s official Jazz music event, a free outdoor music and culture festival, will take place Friday, September 21st from 5pm-12am, and Saturday, September 22nd, from 10am-11pm in the historic Travis Park! Stellar headliners will include 2018 Grammy Nominee- ‘Jazz Vocal Album of the Year’, Jazzmeia Horn, Grammy Award Winner and 19x Grammy Nominee, Lee Ritenour, joyful jazz contemporaries Sammy Miller and The Congregation, and a special engagement with the US Air Force Dimensions in Blue Jazz Ensemble, with special guest Bob Reynolds (of John Mayer Band). Sammy Miller will also teach a master class for local musicians. Other notable performers include San Antonio hometown favorite Jim Cullum Happy Jazz Band, local percussionist extraordinaire Audra Menconi and her Quartet, the master of the marimbas Toro Flores with Hot Sauce, and smooth-as-silk saxophonist BillyRay Sheppard.

The KRTU Stage, presented by Paper Tiger, will be located on Jefferson St., across from the main stage on Navarro St. and will feature free performances from local and regional acts. The luxurious St. Anthony Hotel will play host to the official ‘Wine-Down’ After-Party on their beautiful rooftop bar following the conclusion of Jazzmeia Horn’s performance on Saturday night, from 10pm-1am. This year’s ‘Wine Down’ premiere performer will be none other than San Antonio’s stylish Jazz Crooner, Ken Slavin.

 

Official event sponsors of The 35th Annual Jazz’SAlive include Bud Light, The St. Anthony Hotel, Bohanan’s Prime Steaks and Seafood, Bakery Lorraine, SA300 Tricentennial, Fox29, CW35, NBC 4, Texas Disposal Systems, the City of San Antonio and The Parks and Recreation Department. On top of all the free musical programming made possible by these partners, Jazz’SAlive will also include tons of free family fun, for all ages, including a Creative-Youth Village, Budding Artists Jazz Sessions, and Yoga in the Park. Of course, there will be a wide array of craft food vendors, food trucks, as well as some local restaurants, providing delicious food in the park all weekend long!

 

JoAnn Boone, Board Chair, recently commented on the history of 35 years of Jazz’SAlive in San Antonio. “Looking back at all the Jazz legends that have come through San Antonio to be part of our yearly celebration of jazz music and culture is quite overwhelming! Dave Brubeck, Dizzy Gillespie, Stanley Jordan, Chuck Mangione, Earl Klugh, David Sanborn, Diane Schurr, Kirk Whalum, Hiroshima. The list goes on and on!”

 

Doug McMurry, Chair-Elect of San Antonio Parks Foundation, and Jazz’SAlive Committee Chair, couldn’t be more thrilled about his role on such a special year. “We have one of the best Jazz Festival lineups in the country! This year will be a very exciting year for the Jazz community here in San Antonio.”
