Hold Your Bier at Krause’s Cafe: Masskrugstemmen Stein-Holding Competition Returns
The New Braunfels-based café challenges locals to hold your bier at the Masskrugstemmen (Stein-holding) contest which started May 10 and ends August 11.
If you are looking for something cool to do this summer, head over to Krause’s Cafe in New Bruanfels for their second annual stein holding contest for a bit of fun. Back by popular demand, the beer competition returns to Krause’s Cafe for the second summer. The Bavarian strongman and strongwoman challenges participants to hold a liter of German beer, by the handle, with their arm extended straight in front of them for as long as they can. Former National Champ from New Braunfels, Jason Hurta, serves as emcee for these events. This year, the local winner has a chance to compete in New York City in the national competition and from there, potentially win a trip to Germany. Prost!
WHAT: Krause’s Café & Biergarten is excited to announce more summertime fun and the return of its official Masskrugstemmen competition, a Bavarian stein-holding competition and German sport. The event series began on Thursday, May 10 and Krause’s has held two competitions thus far and will continue the tradition throughout the summer. Masskrugstemmen is a traditional beer stein-holding competition that has its roots in Germany. The competition is a Bavarian strongman and strongwoman test where participants hold a liter of German beer, by the handle, with their arm extended straight in front of them for as long as they can.
WHO: There will be rounds for both men and women. Guests can enter the competition for an entry fee of just $20 to receive their choice of Hofbräu beer and their included stein to go with it. As the competition endures, the last person remaining – and correctly holding his or her liter of beer – wins. The gal and guy winners will move on to the Krause’s Finals which take place on August 11 for one final battle royale to compete for a chance to participate in the Masskrugstemmen at the Hofbrauhaus in New York City on September 15. The stein master named as national champion in New York will win a trip to Germany.
