Step into JDs Chili Parlor for a Chili Inspired Salud! Culinary Nights Dinner
Step into JDs Chili Parlor at this Witte Museum Salud! Culinary Nights Dinner taking place March 29th, 2018 at 6:30pm at 3801 Broadway St., San Antonio, TX.
WHO: JD’s Chili Parlor is an artisan food company which recently moved into the Local Sprout Food Hub on San Antonio’s downtown Eastside. These Professional Chili Designers are known at local farmers and artisan markets, such as the Stone Oak Artisan Market and the Brick at Blue Star, as the source for gourmet chili and mac. They also offer catering for public and private events.
WHAT: This next Salud! Culinary Nights event at the Witte Museum pays homage to the Chili Queens, who were a group of women, truly the progenitors of chili as we know it today. They served chili con carne to the community in the plazas of San Antonio from the 1860s until the late 1930s. Stories were written and songs were sung about these women who fed tired cowboys after a long ride on the cattle trail. Their big pots of chili, cooked over flaming mesquite fires, not only warmed people’s bellies, but their hearts as well.
JD’s Chili Parlor’s company was built on this foundation – of a true “bowl of red,” and are excited to introduce that warmth and those delicious traditional flavors to the guests at this upcoming event.
“The Chili Queens have always been a huge inspiration of mine. They are a cornerstone of the history of chili and of San Antonio, and it’s just such an honor to share it,” said Diana Anderson, co-owner of JD’s Chili Parlor, whose Mesquite-Smoked Angry Goat Chili will be the featured first course of the evening. Please refer to the menu below for more details.
Additionally, as March is Women’s History Month, this event will pay its respects to women in the culinary industry by showcasing an all-female cast of chefs, cooks and staff.
