Alibabas Jack Ma in the International Release of Martial Arts Short Film, Gong Shou Dao

Alibabas Jack Ma and Jet Li’s  revolutionary new martial arts short film Gong Shou Dao releases tomorrow February 16th internationally.


Alibaba CEO Jack Ma brought together legendary martial artists and actors that all believe in the power and health benefits of Tai Chi, who all showcased the beauty of the choreographed martial art “battles” with Ma. The short film features one of the most famous martial artists, Jet Li – who you may know from Lethal Weapon 4 and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor – who worked for free to choreograph the film with Ma.


Gong Shou Dao is a soon-to-be-released Chinese American film with one of the world’s most renowned businessmen at the forefront. You might know Jack Ma as the fearless leader of globally-renowned company, Alibaba Group, but what you may not know is that he is also a martial arts enthusiast and practitioner. Ma, the 53-year-old Executive Chairman, has taken on his most exciting role yet: the star and producer of a short film featuring some of the world’s most legendary martial artists and actors, such as Jet Li.

Donnie Yen – a Hong Kong actor, director and martial artist – is one of the world’s best-known action stars, and continues to gain international recognition in movies such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) andxXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017).

The short film Gong Shou Dao (GSD) will be internationally launched on the day of the Chinese New Year – Friday, February 16th. The original version of the film – released in late 2017 – was a cultural success, already being viewed over 170M+ times. The new version will feature English captions that tell the story of Ma’s beautifully choreographed ‘battles’, promoting the 5,000 year old art of Tai Chi and its health benefits on what is the most important holiday in the Chinese calendar. Please follow the link watch the film when it is released on Friday Feb 16th at 11AM PT.

The film’s only female star, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who rose to fame from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and a new film that also premieres on Chinese New Year this year, Detective Chinatown 2.

Gong Shou Dao is a story of Taiji, highlighting the beauty of martial arts. Jack Ma stumbles across a street called “Mount Hua Sect” hiding between flowers and trees. He enters and is soon confronted with multiple martial arts masters from around the world, where each martial arts discipline is tested. It is not until the end of Jack’s journey that the truth of his experience is revealed. Gong Shou Dao is a short film directed by Wen Zhang and produced by Jet Li. The film stars Alibabas Jack Ma, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Wu Jing, Tony Jaa, Jacky Heung, Asashōryū Akinori, Zou Shiming, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

Gong Shou Dao is a newly launched competitive sport founded upon influences stemming from China’s unique cultural heritage and Taiji. Gong Shou Dao strives for breakthroughs and innovations by making competition rulings simpler and fairer, while also encouraging a more dynamic and fast-paced sporting style to attract a younger demographic of participants. GSD have set their sights on becoming a true global sport by being inducted as a future Olympic event.
