Relaxed European Wine Bar, Zinc Bistro, Has Top Notch Menu
When in downtown San Antonio, stop into Zinc Bistro & Bar, a relaxed European Wine Bar only steps from the famed River Walk. Walk into this cozy bistro and you will be transported to an eatery somewhere in France. Housed in a historic building in the heart of downtown, this quaint restaurant is a jewel of a find.
Once entering this restaurant, you access a small eating area which shares space with a large full service bar that is always busy with folks eating light bites for lunch or enjoying cocktails before dinner. You can also sip wine from their extensive wine list on their hidden courtyard. They say their wine cellar holds more than 4,000 bottles from throughout the world! They also have a second dining room which is decorated in pure French Bistro style from art to small wooden tables and chairs. Huge Chinese lanterns offer soft lighting for ambiance.
I recently stopped in to try out their Culinaria Winter Restaurant Week menu, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with their choices for this meal.
We started off with a choice of soup or salad.
The soup today was Albondigas meatballs in a spicy chipotle broth with rice pilaf. The chipotle certainly gave the rich and tasty broth a gentle kick.
The salad was Warm Spinach and Frisee Salad. Topped with prosciutto chips, dried figs, blackberries and crispy goat cheese all dressed with a Spanish cherry vinaigrette, this salad was none other than amazing. My favorite part of this salad was, hands down, the crispy goat cheese that was served on top. I have to learn how to make this!
And the meal just got better with the entrees!
Grilled Petite Filet with Hudson Valley faux gras butter, truffled mash potatoes, glazed baby carrots with a Bordelaise sauce was not just gorgeous to look at, but delicious to eat.
A Pan Seared Redfish with wild rice & spaghetti squash topped with a sherry oyster mushroom sauce took the prize as far as I was concerned. The fish had a nicely seared crunch on the outside and was moist tender on the inside with its delicate flavor shining through. I would refer to this a plate from heaven.
There was only one dessert on this menu, but it was fit for the Gods. This Fried Apple Pie was topped with cream, a scoop of Gorgonzola gelato and then drizzled with house made salted caramel. The apples were fresh, the crust was light and flaky and that Gorgonzola gelato was a bit of genius!
All I can say is, you have to stop into Zinc Bistro & Bar and have some outstanding food. Today!!
