Buddy Vs Ristorante Brings a Taste of Valastro’s Family Beloved Heirloom Recipes to San Antonio
JOIN THE FAMIGLIA – Buddy Vs Ristorante, a concept venture between renowned baker Buddy “Cake Boss” Valastro, and veteran restaurateurs Elizabeth Blau and Chef Kim Canteenwalla of Blau & Associates, with standing locations in Las Vegas, NV; Bethlehem, PA, brings a taste of Valastro’s family gatherings and beloved heirloom recipes to The Shops at La Cantera in San Antonio, TX. Opening its doors to the public on Monday, January 29, the dining destination offers new twists on Italian-American classics and family favorites, while staying true to Buddy’s baking roots with timeless treats.
WELCOME TO NONNA’S
Designed by Vincent Celano and his team at Celano Design, Inc., Buddy V’s Ristorante is reminiscent of the Sunday dinner atmosphere at Buddy Valastro’s grandmothers home. The concept includes an open expo kitchen with a feature pizza oven, an island bar and dining amid an upscale, but casual, Italian décor. The energy of Buddy V’s flows seamlessly between each dining area, from the bar and lounge to the main dining and open kitchen.
As an added touch, photographs of the Valastro family adorn the walls just as they would in the traditional Italian-American home, where family is key. Some décor elements such as the light fixtures, made of repurposed whisks and wine jugs, and vintage rolling pins which create decorative screens are influenced and inspired by Buddy Valastro’s brand and personality as a baker and chef.

Inspired by family gatherings, neighborhood barbecues, and the beloved recipes passed down by Buddy’s mother, grandmother and aunts, the restaurant features signature dishes such as My Dad’s Bucatini Carbonarawith pancetta, cracked black pepper and egg; Lisa V’s Linguine & White Clam Sauce with white wine, garlic, extra virgin olive oil; Bone-In Veal Parm Chop oven-baked, provolone, mozzarella, served alongside spaghetti marinara; Valastro Sunday Gravy with meatballs, sausage, lamb, pork and a bowl of rigatoni; Steak Pizzaiola with peperonata, grana padano and polenta, and Nona’s Lasagna Al Forno.
A few of Buddy V’s signature desserts include Italian Birthday Cake consisting of rosolio liqueur sponge cake, cannoli filling, chocolate pastry cream and toasted almond; Lisa’s Warm Nutella Cake with chocolate sauce, hazelnut praline crunch and salted caramel ice cream; Cannoli cinnamon pastry, sweet ricotta cream, cocoa drops and pistachios, and the famous Buddy’s Lobster Tail with custard cream, flaky pastry shell and seasonal fresh fruit.

The beverage program at Buddy V’s pays homage to the local libation scene, featuring spirits from distilleries, breweries and wineries such as Alamo Golden Ale, Witherspoons River Rum, 512 Tequila Silver, Garrison Brothers Fall Whiskey, Dripping Springs Gin, Deep Eddy Vodka, and wines from wineries including McPherson, Fall Creek and The Duchman.
Additionally, the restaurant serves up signature cocktails including Cake Boss with three olives cake, chocolat royal liqueur and baily’s cream, and the Margarita Veneziana with patron reposado, amaretto, amarena cherry, sweet & sour and fresh lime juice and the Sicilian Tea with deep eddy sweet tea, lemon & cranberry vodka, fresh sweet & sour and club soda.
