New Royal Masquerade Gala is a River Walk Event that Kicks-off the Mardi Gras Season
The new Royal Masquerade Gala will be held on Friday, February 9 th , 6:30 – 10:00 PM at the Wyndham Garden Riverwalk. Formal attire, masks, and beads will set the tone as guests dance to live music, play casino games, and bid on silent auction items. Tickets are sold online at TheSanAntonioRiverWalk.com/events.
Over 35,000 people celebrated Mardi Gras on the San Antonio River Walk in 2017. Building on the success of the annual parade, festival and artisan show, two more activities have been added for 2018; the Royal Masquerade Gala and Ford Jazz ON the River.
The silent auction will feature tickets to NIOSA, the San Antonio Zoo, SeaWorld, and Splashtown. Also up for grabs is a Family Membership to Mitchell Lake Audubon Center with membership privileges, overnight stays at fine hotels such as the Hotel Valencia, Hyatt Regency, the Wyndham Riverwalk and La Quinta River Walk. Additional fun prizes include a year’s worth of Whataburger taquitos, a signed basketball by Spurs superstar Patty Mills, free meals at 12 different restaurants and much more.
$50 tickets include dinner, drink tickets, and casino chips. $75 admission includes the additional perks of reserved seating and additional casino chips. Reserved party tables of ten are available at $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000. Table purchases include recognition at the event, on the River Walk website, and additional swag.
The mardi gras festival is held on the Arneson River Theatre stage located in La Villita on Saturday, February 10, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM. Performing on stage this year will be local jazz favorites such as the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, The Crooked Vines, Hector Ward and the Big Time, Tony Romero, and Henry Rivas. Additional musical talent provided by iHeartMedia.
Decorated floats will transform the River Walk into a floating mardi gras celebration during the river parade from 4:00-6:00 PM. Krewes of costumed revelers and music combine to celebrate mardi gras San Antonio style. The Bud Light Mardi Gras River Parade and Festival are free.
Bud Light is the title sponsor. iHeart Media is sponsor of the Arneson River Theatre stage and BIO MAT USA is sponsoring the free photo booth. Other sponsors include Yelp San Antonio, K1Speed, SA Street Krew, Jesus Lopez Attorney at Law, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, and The Original Mexican Restaurant.
Food Trucks such as Southern Gourmet on Da Geaux and Little Red Boil Peanuts will serve Cajun food. Other activities include face painting and caricatures. Strolling trumpet, saxophone and guitar musicians will busk throughout La Villita Way and along the River Walk.
Be-bop down to the River Walk February 10 – 13, from 7-9:15 PM each night to get your jazz fix with everything from brass bands, trios, and jazz ensembles as they float on the beautiful River Walk during Ford Jazz ON the River. The music is free to enjoy anywhere along the 2 ½ mile route, but to find the best seat, simply book a table at your favorite River Walk patio. A schedule of performers is on the River Walk website.

Guests to the River Walk can also enjoy the Mardi Gras Artisan Show from February 9th to the 11th. Free to attend, you’ll be able to meet over 40 artisans, and see their work while enjoying the ambiance of river banks from 11:00 AM-11: 00 PM. Artisans display and sell their beautiful handmade merchandise to include pottery, textiles, jewelry, woodwork, paintings, beadwork and more.
