Winter Brews at Samuel Adams are Here Only for a Short Time

One of the best parts of the Holiday season at Samuel Adams are the winter brews. But they are here only for a short time so you need to pick them up while you can. This year they have six outstanding seasonal brews that bring out the best of the holidays with their festive flavors and old world goodness.

Let me introduce them:

Samuel Adams White Christmas – The Sam Adams brewers took a different approach to the traditional holiday brew with White Christmas. Instead of a hearty, malty beer, this unfiltered White Ale is inspired by the season and brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange peel to create a flavorful, yet refreshing brew. A festive and flavorful change of pace, this beer is a great choice for holiday gatherings with friends and family.

The combination of wheat, German pilsner malts and two-row pale malt blend creates a medium-bodied brew with citrusy orange flavors that balance the spicy cinnamon and earthy nutmeg notes. Spalt Spalter Noble hops contribute a subtle lemon character.

Try pairing this one with a salad topped with cranberries and goat cheese, duck, baked ham or Gingerbread pancakes.

Samuel Adams Winter Lager – German brewers were onto something centuries ago when they created bold, rich bock beers for the winter. To carry on the tradition, Samuel Adams brewers created Winter Lager, a spiced wheat bock brewed with fresh ground cinnamon, ginger and orange peel. The brewers scoured the world for Winter Lager’s spices, trying dozens of cinnamons before landing on a blend from Southeast Asia. Unlike the more common varieties, this blend contains Indonesian and Vietnamese cinnamons, which offer just the right amount of warming spice to complement the beer but not overpower it.

This one pairs with baked Brie, Thai food, beef stew and apple pie.

Samuel Adams Oatmeal Stout – Brand new for this holiday season, Samuel Adams Oatmeal Stout joins the popular and anticipated Winter Classics Variety Pack. This classic style traces its roots to Great Britain and is a cousin of sweet stout, which gets body and flavor from lactose instead of oats.

Oatmeal Stout pours a deep brown with a round, smooth body and rich, roasted notes of espresso and dark chocolate. Sam Adams brewers used oats to enhance this beer’s body and complexity, as well as add a subtle sweetness. Like comforting holiday fare, the beer’s robust roasted malt character and hints of chocolate, nuttiness and vanilla are just the right antidote to winter’s harsher climates.

Use this one to accompany Cheddar cheese, roasted nuts, chicken with mole sauce, and cheesecake.

Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock – Sam Adams brewers combined two of life’s greatest indulgences – beer and chocolate – to create Chocolate Bock. Smooth, rich and dark, this brew is slowly aged on a bed of cocoa nibs sourced from Madagascar, Ghana and Ecuador. This proprietary blend provides notes of chocolate, honey and vanilla. Decadent and robust, it’s the chocolate and beer lover’s choice to celebrate the holiday season.

Chocolate Bock’s upfront flavor of fresh milk chocolate is followed by underlying notes of roasted coffee and a hint of vanilla, resulting in a velvety, creamy mouthfeel and lingering chocolatey finish.

This one goes great with Aged Swiss cheese or Manchego, Braised short ribs, roasted meat, and dark chocolate mousse or Tiramisu.

Samuel Adams Amber Bock – A new addition to the 2017 Samuel Adams Winter Classics Variety Pack lineup, Amber Bock is a full-flavored dark amber beer that nails the balance between robust and easy-drinking. Sessionable enough to enjoy during even the longest holiday party, this seasonal brew can be appreciated on its own or paired with your favorite holiday dish.

Inspired by its heartier Helles Bock cousin, Amber Bock has a complex, lively flavor with distinct notes of caramel and a touch of toffee and honey. A subtle, earthy Noble hop character, crisp body and clean finish help balance the brew’s maltiness

This goes well with arugula and caramelized onion flatbread, bratwurst, Cajun chicken and almond biscotti.

Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale – One of Sam Adams’ most popular winter brews and called the “Christmas cookie of beers” by Sam Adams brewers, Old Fezziwig delights drinkers’ palates with its complex and smooth malt character, with flavors ranging from sweet toffee and dark caramel to chocolate with roasted notes.

Old Fezzwig is a full-bodied, spiced brown ale that’s brewed with a blend of cinnamon, ginger and orange peel. This beer pours an intense mahogany brown and finishes with a lingering malty and spicy flavor.

This beer is inspired by Old Fezziwig, a character from the novel A Christmas Carol, who was happy and spirited in contrast to Ebenezer Scrooge. Like its namesake, this beer is warm, festive and worthy of a celebration all its own.

Try this one with butternut squash, cranberry sauce, roasted lamb or spice and carrot cake.

Besides pairing these winter brews with many of your favorite holiday foods, they can also be used to create some festive cocktails for your holiday entertaining. Check out these recipes from Samuel Adams:
