Downstairs at Esquire Tavern Raises a Glass to Cheer a Successful First Year
Downstairs at Esquire Tavern is excited to celebrate its One Year Anniversary on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Having opened last year on the same day, Downstairs will be celebrating the occasion with food and drink specials from open to close, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
“We are so happy and thrilled Downstairs has been so well received in the San Antonio community,” said Chris Hill, Owner of Downstairs, The Esquire Tavern, and El Mirador. “As a thank you, we want to celebrate with our guests and clink our glasses with each and every one of them. We look forward to more prosperous years in the heart of the Alamo city.”
Guests can visit Downstairs and try the Break-Even Bottle menu, which will only be available on September 16 and while supplies last. The menu will feature 10 rare and unique wines & spirits for guests to enjoy at cost, with no mark-up. This concept, called Drunken Socialism, was pioneered in 2014 at Anvil Bar & Refuge in Houston, to allow guests the opportunity to affordably taste hard to acquire spirits. Many bars around the world have embraced this zero-profit concept, and Downstairs is excited to share a few of the very special bottles they have acquired in their first year.
The Break-Even Bottle menu (limited to 1 oz of each item per guest) includes:
• D’Oliveiras Verdelho Madeira from 1912 – $19.80/oz
• D’Oliveiras Bastardo Madeira from 1927 – $21.68/oz
• Valdespino ‘Coliseo’ VORS Amontillado Sherry – $4.36/oz
• Valdespino ‘Cardenal’ VORS Palo Cortado Sherry – $5.00/oz
• Rochelt Morello Cherry Eau de Vie – $9.23/oz
• Mezcal Vago Tobalá by Aquilino García – $4.14/oz
• Fuenteseca 21 Year Extra Añejo Tequila – $27.74/oz
• Foursquare Criterion Rum – $2.86/oz
• Compass Box Three Year Deluxe Whisky – $8.25/oz
• Thomas H. Handy Straight Rye Whiskey – $3.84/oz
Along with the drink specials, Downstairs will be offering its 1-Year Culatello Board, a charcuterie board featuring a Culatello that has been aged in the bar’s curing room since it opened, and paired with additional cheese and accouterments for $15. Complimentary oysters & champagne will be passed throughout the evening, and the full Downstairs menu will also be available for purchase.
The special One Year Anniversary menu is limited and on a first come, first serve basis until it sells out, so guests are encouraged to arrive early. The kitchen will be open until 1:30 a.m., and the bar will stay open until 2 a.m. Downstairs at Esquire is located at 156 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX, 78205.
