Celebrate International Beer Day with Carnival Cruise Line ‘s Carnival Vista expert Brew Master’s top 5 picks at the RedFrog Pub & Brewery.
International Beer Day (Friday, August 4) just happened and what better way to celebrate than with a refreshing brew!
Carnival Cruise Line ’s newest ship, Carnival Vista, is home to the first craft brewery on a North American-based cruise ship, Colin Presby, brew master at the Carnival Vista’s RedFrog Pub & Brewery, does it all from brewing the best hand-crafted beers at sea to creating new seasonal brews for thirsty Carnival guests.
To celebrate International Beer Day, Colin is sharing his five favorite beers both on board and ashore. Whether you lean toward a lager or prefer a pale ale, he has the perfect beer for every taste.
Please see below for his top 5 picks!
Weyerbacher Merry Monks (Weyerbacher Brewing Company, Easton, PA) I started my career at Weyerbacher and Merry Monks holds a big place in my heart. This beer is elegance in a glass! Weyerbacher’s brewers coax wonderful, nuanced flavors from simple ingredients through skilled use of an expressive Belgian yeast strain.
Rodenbach Grand Cru (Brouwerij Rodenbach, Roselare, Belgium) Complex and sour with flavor driven by mixed fermentation and aging. I often use Rodenbach Grand Cru as an introduction to demonstrate the wonderful breadth of flavor available in beer. It’s easy to say you don’t like beer when all you’ve tried is industrial yellow lager. This beautifully complex beer is a real eye opener.
The Alchemist Heady Topper (The Alchemist, Waterbury, VT) I love beer and travel, and sometimes the two go hand in hand. Heady Topper is brewed in Waterbury, VT and only available locally around the brewery, so getting a taste can be quite a challenge unless you make the trek up to the mountains of Vermont. Having made this pilgrimage, Heady Topper’s explosion of hop flavor and aroma transports me back every time.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Chico, CA) THE American Pale Ale, this beer inspired generations of home brewers and professionals and helped shape the Craft Beer movement. It’s a classic, full-flavored hoppy beer that I can always get on board a Carnival ship.
Thirsty Frog Caribbean Wheat (Brewed on Carnival Vista) Refreshing, lightly spicy with hints of orange and most importantly always fresh, Caribbean Wheat is my ideal “sit outside on a hot day” beer. And we certainly have our share of hot days as we cruise around the Caribbean!
