Five Great Holidays to Toast with Summer Cocktails
Summer is officially here and the next two months are filled with fun, festive and spirited events like these five great holidays. Thanks to William Grant & Sons, a family-owned distillery with a vast portfolio of award-winning spirits, we have cocktails for every celebration.
National Pina Colada Day – July 10
Celebrate the drink that always reminds you of summer with these two deliciously refreshing cocktails featuring Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, a straight-up, no nonsense, old-school rum, blended the way it should be, bold and smooth. The second cocktail uses the award-winning Flor de Cana, a family-owned Nicaraguan rum that is celebrating over 125 years of rum production.
Wahine Pina Colada
1 ½ parts fresh pineapple juice
1 ½ parts house-made cream of coconut
1 ½ parts Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and add ice. Shake well and pour into a frozen pineapple. Garnish with sprinkled coconut flakes and an orchid.
Flor de Caña Pina Colada
2 ½ parts Flor de Cana 7 Rum
3 parts pineapple juice
1 part coconut cream
Combine the FDC 7, pineapple juice and coconut cream in a blender. Add cup of crushed ice and blend on high until smooth. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with a pineapple wedge.
National Tequila Day – July 24 – One of five great holidays!
There is nothing wrong with the classic margarita but we challenge you to branch out on July 24 with these two cocktails, created by Milagro Brand Ambassador Jamie Salas, featuring the award-winning, 100% blue agave, Milagro Tequila. www.milagrotequila.com
Mayan Mule by Jaime Salas
2 parts Milagro Resposado
½ part Fresh Lime Juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters
3 parts Ginger Beer
Place 2-3 ice cubes in a Collin glass. Add fresh squeezed lime juice, Milagro Resposado, ginger beer and bitters. Garnish with mint sprigs and a lime wheel.
Tenochtitlan by Jaime Salas
2 parts Milagro Silver
1 part Fresh Lime Juice
¾ part Oregano simple*
4 Watermelon Chucks
Muddle watermelon and add remaining ingredients into cocktail shaker. Shake and strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass. Garnish with fresh oregano leaf and pink peppercorn and coarse salt rim.

National Scotch Day – July 27 – One of five great holidays!
Some think Scotch is just for sipping and we are here to prove otherwise with these two Scotch cocktails featuring both a blended and single malt Scotch whisky.

1 ½ parts Monkey Shoulder
1 part sweet vermouth
1 part Campari
Add all ingredients to mixing glass
Add cold dry ice and stir
One dilution is reached, strain into glass
1 part Glenfiddich 14 Year Old
1 Part Tullamore DEW
½ part Lemon juice
½ part orgeat
Lemon snap garnish
Method: Shake hard, serve up.
August – National Rum Month
August is National Rum Month and August 16 is National Rum Day! Celebrate with these cocktails also made with Flor de Cana. Aged naturally in American white oak bourbon barrels sealed with banana leaves gives the rum a whisky finish with tropical flavor notes. www.flordecana.com
Daiquiri al Marrasquino
½ part Flor de Caña 7
¾ part Fresh Lime Juice
½ part Simple Syrup (1.5:1 Sugar: Water)
¼ part Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
Shake Vigorously and strain into Coupe
Garnish with Orange Peel
1 ½ part Flor de Caña 4 White Rum
1 part superfine Sugar
4 sprigs of fresh Mint
Muddle mint leaves, superfine sugar and lime in a mixing glass.
Add Flor de Caña and ice in a cocktail shaker and shake.
Strain into a tall glass filled with ice.
Top with Club Soda.
Garnish with mint.
National Whiskey Sour Day – August 25 – One of five great holidays!
Enjoy a the fresh taste of summer with the classic citrus cocktail featuring Hudson Whiskey’s Four Grain Bourbon, the first pot-distilled whiskey to be produced in New York’s Hudson Valley since Prohibition. ¾ part of fresh lemon juice
¾ part of simple syrup
